Are there any telltale signs, like a particular neurochemical being out of balance? I mean, can you imagine going through permanent surgery when just an appropriate medicine would have corrected the disturbing perception of being "trapped in the wrong body?"
all i know is that some children are born with either unclear gender, or are hermaphrodite, etc. i read or saw on tv that all fetuses start as 'female' and then change about the 5th month if they are supposed to be a boy, based on chromosomes. but what if something doesn't quite go right? there are a variety of causes i guess for things like this, where gender is unclear, or both are evident. so, the doctor takes a shot-he has a 50/50 shot of being right-or being wrong.
all i know is, instead of people discounting something because it's odd, try to find a bit of empathy. imagine walking a mile in those shoes. it's got to be horrible. but then, i'm not someone who thinks your taste in the same or opposite sex is a choice, anymore than i think someone just decides, hey, i think i want to be a guy now. you're asking for all kinds of scorn and abuse by doing so-who the hell would just want to go thru that on a whim??

easy: because no one noticed it or better yet ever took notice before????

if that's wrong, second guess: Because it was a white canvas that would seem to convey being larger with coloring?
