![]() I think Firing Line is the best choice for the Preakness and Dortmund to the Belmont. But then again, owners aside I'd keep both of them out of each race if I was Baffert. That said, he won't since he's a horseman first and a businessman second.

![]() Baffert told Jay Privman this morning that Dortmund will go to Preakness. Simon Callaghan says Firing Line exited Derby well and is a Pimli-go.

![]() I think Dortmund will run better for the Preakness. He was super-sharp yesterday.

![]() Aside from the obvious, what would adding an extra quarter mile do for a horse that had the race is own way and folded up after a mile and a quarter?

Asses him and if he's fit and kicking down the barn run'em. Baffert'll figure it out I'm sure and do the right thing. I've told Bob, after meeting him at Saratoga a few years back, to call me any time he needs advice. Then again AP may be more likely to take the Belmont than the Preakness. He may have run a mile and half to win yesterday.

![]() I think that the ground loss that AP had is being overblown. He was kept outside in the clear without having dirt kicked in his face, basically the same race that Espinoza rode with California Chrome last year and a very good trip.
That tactic can cause a very different result in the Belmont. We still have no proof that AP can take dirt in his face. |

Don't throw the time thingy at me either. You don't run horses to set track records, you run them to win. Who cares what his time was except all the number crunchers . . . he knows where the finish line is and what he has to do to get there before anyone else and he has a good pilot on him to help make that happen.

![]() Well Chrome proved he couldn't, at least not down on the inside. It definitely showed itself in the Belmont. Knowing that a horse does or doesn't like that can tell you not to put them in a certain place. Finding out whether or not AP resents it can make a difference in tactics. Right now, they're just gonna have to hope it's not a problem. Of course he's such a talented horse he might just put himself in a position that it doesn't matter. I see people commenting on a horse with frequent bad racing luck and they say if he/she ever gets a good trip watch out. The thing is really good horses make their own luck and horses that aren't as good as we think can get themselves into trouble but here we are blaming that for their finish. Maybe AP's making his own luck.

![]() Three out of the four winners were all inside trip winners. Only AP rallied wide and won. I thought CD had the track in great shape. The figure makers are saying the track slowed down a bit as the day rolled on, which is quite possible when you consider the amount of time between races.
