The stewards claim they don't know how to regulate it if it falls off in the paddock or during a race.

From the article you linked to, it sounded like Doug O'Neill never formally requested to use the nasal strips prior to the scratch.

This incredibly lame topic almost makes me yearn for the days when NY did not allow Lasix.

That may be the most idiotic reasoning ever used considering that they arent even considered equipment in any jurisdiction except NY which only uses that designation to "ban" them. Especially considering that tongue ties which can also come off in the post parade or during a race arent considered reported equipment despite their far greater ability to effect performance.

Ironically I sat through a presentation a few years back at the International Lasix conference held at Belmont where several reports praised the use of nasal strips in combating EIPH in a easy, safe and non-drug use way. Obviously no one from NYRA including 2 of the stewards who were in attendance was paying much attention.

media blowing this out of proportion. he won't miss it due to the strip.

but then, they don't have a missing plane to introduce a crap-ton of conspiracy theories about, so they have to do something.

NY manages to embarrass the sport again. Apparently they can't figure out what everybody has been able to manage.

this quote from Doug O'Neill cracks me up

''I can't imagine them being that ignorant that they would do that again,'' O'Neill said. ''New York has gotten a lot better with common sense. It seems like a more rational place now.''

But, what if it falls off in the paddock or during the race??? Will Raul have to bend to pick it up? Might it not impede the other horses?

I surprised that the issue of whether the Jockey Club will allow the owners to run under DAP Racing (knowing what it stands for) or to use their silks (with donkey on back) hasn't come up yet.

Those should both be allowed, right? I know there's a specific rule about having text on silks in NY that is not allowed, but this shouldn't really violate it.

Believe non-TJC approved silks/blinkers are OK in stakes. Must conform in NY otherwise.

Forget whose silks this came up with that helped alter the standards... might have been Brother Derek with the NBC peacock on the jacket.
