I have been no fan of the Saratoga Stewards who have been clueless this meet and have made the wrong call on a number of no brainers, but having watched it back, it did look like Irad tried to go for a hole that did not exist.

Funny, I thought the whole was clearly defined and that Castellano tried to close it when Ortiz had already gained the spot. Will rewatch the head-on replay with an open mind.

Have just watched the head-on ... that path clearly existed, Ortiz had a neck into the space, and Castellano came across to slam the door late. That was a disqualification.

From the front view it appeared to me that the hole was not there. From the rear it appeared to me that Irad initiated the contact.

Either way, even though Junior inexplicably allowed the rail to open, the 3 had no exuse for not winning the race.
