Secret Compass is the filly to beat in the Juvenile Fillies. In the Chandelier Stakes which she won, it was 18 lengths from the third place finisher to fourth, a sign of a quality race. She has the tactical speed to not fall too far off the pace.

She will have first run and win.

It could also be the sign of a poor race and in looking at the runners in there, I'm thinking poor race instead of quality.

Didn't She's a Tiger run the better race in the Chandelier?

I'm not sure if Scandalous Act will be sent, and Artemis Agrotera owns a lot of speed too (although she gets a more patient jockey in Lezcano).

Yes, She's a Tiger ran the better race, but I'm just worried she'll get caught in a duel. If she does, Secret Compass will have first run.

Then again, with jockeys as chicken as they are today, maybe this scenario won't happen and they will let She's a Tiger coast to victory. I may use both She's a Tiger and Secret Compass.

She has to move way up to beat the exacta horses from the Frizette.

Numbers wise yes. But the Frizette fillies also have to negotiate two turns for the first time. I see that Sweet Reason worked a slow mile around two turns this morning just to get a feel of the added lead changing going two turns..

I also think horses that prepped at Santa Anita tend to fare well in the dirt Juvenile Fillies when it's held at Santa Anita, like Beholder and Halfbridled. Maybe you have a point though.

COMPANY LINES: Both Culprit (MSW, 1m, dirt, 80 Beyer) and Tiger Bourbon (ALW/N2L, 8.5f-T, 70 Beyer) won Sunday at Churchill exiting also-ran efforts in the G3 Bourbon which has Poker Player, Bashart and Bon Accord in the J-Turf.. Also note that Ride On Curlin (3rd behind Havana & Honor Code in the Champagne) was a non-threatening 3rd as the even money favorite in the Street Sense..

At Belmont, note Mansion House 3rd in U.S. debut in Awad. Was 3rd behind Wilshire Boulevard in G3 at Curragh last.

Ride on Curlin's performance likely upgrades Havana's Champagne win, as he was the lone speed to survive, while Honor Code and Ride on Curlin came from last and second to last. As for Mansion House, there are very few riders that would have lost with him yesterday...not that a win would have flattered Wilshire Boulevard. I also think it may be a bit of an apples and oranges comparison.

Culprit's win is also an indictment of the atrocity that was the Iroquois, as 3rd place finisher Tapiture was a dull 3rd yesterday in that MSW race.
