Dinosaur Jesus, save this country from theocrates and religious haters.
I think they are pointing out how many Americans have no idea about what their neighbors are doing as opposed to saying "Muslims deserve this."

Ignorance among the population, I was shocked when I heard this was a Sikh temple, made no sense as they are truly peaceful people, my second thought, sadly, was that some horrible excuse for a human thought they were Muslims.
That is the world we live in now.

Please for sanity's sake quote riot with just riot.

No one was saying muslims deserve violence. It's the voices going off in her head again. The Sikh's, you know the victims were the ones saying they were not muslims. What the Sikhs were saying is their religion Sikhism teaches women are equal to men and hold any position a man does in their church. Perhaps the only mainstream religion to do so. They also point out their God loves everyone and there is no such word as infidel. I think Christians and Jews have more in common with muslims than Sikhs do and this is their point. Not to mention they lived under muslim rule for over 300 years and fought and beat the muslims because they were opposed to converting. This is why the muslim/Sikh differences are being pointed out.

I am originally from NJ and very familiar with the Sikh people and their religion, their is a very large population there. I am OK with the differences being brought up too because the majority of Americans are clueless on pretty much every topic.

it's all well and good to point out the differences....but no loonie is going to care. that guy was already a racist, and apparently on the edge. it didn't matter one whit to him whether his victims were muslim or not-they were 'different'. just like the batman shooter didn't care who his victims were.
and those who are pointing out that they 'aren't muslims'-if they were, would you be as sympathetic? i would imagine that the answer for some would be 'no', and that's a shame.

What I think is a shame is the people of the U.S. not familiar with Sikhism are not being allowed to hear what the Sikhs are saying because although true it's not PC.

Especially when the main difference involves equality and acceptance of other religions. But why let facts get in the way.

Attention Americans who are Muslim haters and bigots - don't fear! The right-wing skinhead killer actually killed Sikhs. You're safe from finger-pointing at any consequences for your bigotry for now.

----------------------
http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/opi...,4837148.story

From todays Baltimore Sun:

Not all is rosy for American minorities. Some politicians and media personalities are actively engaged in fear mongering, mainly against American Muslims. Because some confuse them with Muslim extremists, the rhetoric has caused more than 1,000 hate crimes, including murders, against the American Sikh community since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

According to a Sikh leader in the Milwaukee area, two taxis owned by Sikh drivers were vandalized, and two Sikh men were assaulted there following9/11. American Muslims still get to face the brunt of the injury, according to Muslim civil rights organizations, with thousands of complaints filed every year.

What, then, keeps the American minorities so committed to the United States? The answer lies in the wounds of the police officers recuperating in Wisconsin's hospitals. American minorities are cognizant that no matter how much hate the bigots spew and no matter how many bullets the lunatics fire, the institutions and the Constitution of America are on their side.

It was nice of them to point out that a "right-wing skinhead" (did they ask him about his politics?) was not informed about the people he was killing. Or the other racist idiots. Thank god there are newspapers to share this valuable insight.

Yea why criticize a religion whose doctrine says all non-believers are infidels, calls for jihad for things like cartoons, and who kill thousands of daughters each year in the name of honor! Not to mention attempting to slaughter the people we are speaking of because they simply believed in Sikhism,

I suppose as long as women in this country have access to subsidized or free health care who cares?

I'm familiar with them through my work and if everyone was Sikh the world would be a much nicer place, that's for sure.

Their consistent record of achieving the American dream starting with nothing should make the occupy crowd and anyone else crying and whining blush in embarrassment and get a job.

If only the majority of Americans would sign on here to read the enlightened opinions found in the "Politics/Society" room, then cluelessness would be a thing of the past.
I am less than certain that would help.

I didn't say that, you remarkable fool. If you are going to refuse to read what I write, then stop trying to pull responses to what I write out of the ignorance of thin air.

Exactly. But they are less Sikh's, than Americans. And that's what is worse. And we don't have to tolerate any such world.
