Agree with this logic...............would also consider using simple exactas on individual races. The nice thing about both of these wagers is that you can monitor the payouts to make sure you're getting value for your choices. Crist also explains the better way to play exactas rather than settling for boxes in his book---------Exoctic Betting is a great read.
