Dutrow is probably the closest thing New York has seen to a Jeff Mullins over the last 15 years.

Dutrow debuted only 25 horses last year -- and 18 so far this year -- a lot of them debuted in maiden claiming races. He's won a Breeders Cup Classic and a Kentucky Derby and trained a Horse of the Year.

Dutrow doesn't get shunned with bigger owners as much as Mullins though.

As far as the 2012 stats go:

Dutrow: 77-for-265 (29% wins) $1,96 ROI

Mullins: 25-for-107 (23% wins) $2.99 ROI

Larry Jones: 31-for-109 (28% wins) $2.72 ROI

That trio has been magical over the last 15 years. Of the three, Mullins has been by far the most shunned by owners.

He may run into issues with renewals based on this. FL will probably be the first state he applies for 2013 because they have a July-June license unlike most states which do it on a yearly basis.

While I have been on record as believing that Dutrow's cavilier attitude towards the rules and authorities in general make the actions taken against him justifiable to a degree, I think the vindictivness of many in the game towards him and the glee that accompanied this news by many in the media says a lot more about where we are headed than any farcical Congressional hearings may.

The thing to remember is that Dutrow's case is unique simply because of the volume and regularity of his violations and there isnt going to be any trend towards more sentences like this because guys have gotten a lot more careful and cleaned up how they do business. Of course this is a positive but as most violations are minor in the grand scheme what are we really accomplishing here?

They will appeal to a higher court, string it out for another couple of years, then admit his horses were eating poppyseed bagels and just like his cheating mentor Bobby Frankel will probably get the fastest horse in the world named after him
