I don't think either of these are true. Off the top of my head AP Indy fetched a couple of million as a yearling and he was about as blue blood as it gets. Depending on what your definintion of what a "blue blood" is, there have been plenty to win TC races.

ok in recent memory then, yes Ap Indy was blue as it gets, and I know you can make a case for almost every winner in the past 20 years or so about the "blue blood" thing. But I am talking about the more fashionable sires and mares. Sires like Seeking the Gold, Ap Indy, Mr. P,

This year, the winners of the Preakness and Belmont were out of mares who had already produced at least one other Grade 1 winner. The Derby winner, Animal Kingdom, is closely related to the streaking Daveron, who has won 3 or 4 stakes races this year including last weekend's Ballston Spa.
