I'm talking about Obama's past and current stated views on gay marriage, not about who supported or didn't support DOMA.

Obama's personal views differ from what he has supported as best for the country. He gets kudos for that from me. As opposed to the politicians that try and legislate the rights of others away, because others might choose to live privately in a way (abortion, gay unions or marriage, etc) the politician doesn't personally approve of.

my post was in response to your statement that dems are all in favor, and reps are all not, regarding gay marriage, etc etc. i'm not sure why you're responding about just obama. i applaud him for taking a stance that won't win him popularity with some, although i did think his original take on it all was weak. my point was that your blanket assertion regarding each party is false. there are members of each party who don't follow their party's line. thankfully.

Ah. ?? Didn't say that. Didn't mean that. I was talking about general party platform characteristics of the parties:

"That's the difference between Democrats, who honor and respect the freedom of others to do differently than themselves; and Republicans, who do not."

well, that wasn't what you wrote, nowhere in the above do you say that specifically, so i'm sorry that i missed thinking that...at any rate, then how do you explain the dems support of doma to begin with?

Zig: I never said any of that. What statement are you talking about? The only thing I've said is this:

Quote:
Obama has said he personally does not support gay marriage. To him, marriage is man-woman. Yet Obama supports the freedom of others to do what they wish And in fact, he is fighting for that very right for others.

That's the difference between Democrats, who honor and respect the freedom of others to do differently than themselves; and Republicans, who do not.
I don't think all Dems are in favor of gay marriage, and all GOP are not. That's crazy. And I never said such a thing

i inferred it from this, since this thread has been mostly about the that very subject. i guess you didn't mean it to be that far-reaching, so thanks for clarifying that.
