i think the most important thing is that the company know the best way to clean it up, etc. of course we learn from our past, and no doubt that's how they have figured out the best way to provide safety checks, etc. but i don't know that it's the ceo's job to know all about all that-i think it's his job to have the people in place to know that. but i see your point. not sure tho about the comparison to ww1. a more likely comparison would be for obama to know all the specifics about the huge san francisco earthquake and all the details on how it was handled-and i doubt he does. but maybe/hopefully fema does.

neither, i'd imagine, did many people. so what. it's not like i know every tragedy that ever befell a coke machine. but i can take care of whatever may happen with the 600-odd machines i have control over.

So what? They are the CEO's of oil companies, in front of Congress regarding the biggest oil spill ever, and they didn't even look at the crib notes? They sit there say, "oil spill? Before? really?"
