The government doesn't have the equipment or expertise to handle this. The government doesn't drill for oil. BP does (supposedly does, and pretty obviously doesn't - not that I think they care one whit).
I don't know what you think the government was supposed to do differently - call in other oil company workers from other areas of the world, kick the BP head guys out, and use other oilmen to direct the fixes on equipment they were completely unfamiliar with?
The only thing I would have like to have seen was the government send in National Guard, gov. troops, etc. on the ground for cleanup more quickly. They still would have to obtain booms, etc from private companies. Boats from the locals.
What - exactly - would you have liked to see the government and Obama do differently? Exactly?

BP is very interested in stopping the leak. Obama is very interested in filing lawsuits.
I'd like him to admit he is in way over his head and resign. You can't vote present when you are president.
I've heard that BP wanted to do the cap first and it was Obama that wanted to try everything else first. With his agenda I think he wants more damages
