Any notion that this cemetery is somehow more sacred than the others is not only absurd; it is on its face ahistorical. The idea that a president is required to lay a wreath there on Memorial Day also has no valid traditional basis. As recently as 1993, a U.S. president left office without having done so once. His name is George H.W. Bush, and his patriotism and his bravery in wartime are beyond question.

and exactly what does laying a wreath have to do with an oil spill? the 'obama can do no right' has gotten as old as the 'bush can do no right' claptrap.

I don't care about George Bush or any other Bush. They sucked. So what. This is the president today. That's where libs lose in this argument. We have 2 wars going on and 30k troops on the line in Korea.

Jay Agg, a spokesman for the veterans group AMVETS, said the annual ceremony at Arlington is "the ideal place for the president to observe Memorial Day. However, his choice to honor our fallen at another national cemetery as other presidents have done is entirely appropriate."

In an e-mail, Agg accused some people of using the day "as an opportunity to score cheap political points on the backs of our veterans and in doing so dishonor them and distract from the true meaning and purpose of Memorial Day."

You seem to miss the fact that in both of your posts you brought up Bush. Why don't you get it? If he wasn't there it was wrong as well.

Why should all presidents have to go to just that particular cemetery? There are veterans buried in cemeteries all over the country, and the one Obama was at today was dedicated by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Personally I don't really give a crap what any president does on Memorial Day, but I don't think it is that outrageous to "honor" fallen veterans at various parts of the country rather than just at Arlington year after year.

Arlington National is the only true place to honor all the fallen veterans.

Actually, if you agree with him 1000%, then the second part of your statement is entirely wrong because what he said was 1000% percent the opposite of what you just did.

On the other hand, the fact that there is even a thread about this is hilarious.

yes, as a way of showing that obama wasn't setting some new precedent here. arlington isn't the only cemetary, as miraja pointed out. much ado about nothing.
