I recognize that great horses lose all the time. However, I also judge them based on who they beat. The band of horses he beat up on in 2003 was far, far, far from impressive.

They weren't bad ... but when horses like Candy Ride, Medaglia D'Oro, and Congaree are around ... and he's not beating them ... the opposition is going to seem terrible.

Perfect Drift was an excellent horse when he beat Mineshaft - and Mineshaft ran the better race of the two in defeat anyway.

I think Mineshaft (with lasix) might have toyed with Invasor. But yeah, He's obviously not even close to being the best horse since '80 and the collection of horses he beat is not very impressive at all.

We'll never know whether he could've run a 130 Beyer with Frankel now will we...He'll be a hell of a lot better in the shed than Ghostzapper, we all know that.

I just wanted to update the scoreboard on Grade I winners produced.

Ghostzapper 1
Mineshaft 0

I know, I know, I just had to give you a hard time and any chance to invoke the ultra inflammatory Stately Victor can't be passed.

I don't know that strictly Grade I winners will be the basis but ok...also that BG was less impressive than some of the Grade 2 winners that Mineshaft already has. Let's wait 5 years and revisit shall we.

As one very smart trainer told me " these Ghostzappers just can't run on dirt. "

So Ghostzapper had foresight into throwing Poly winners. Bravo...In 20 years Poly will be something in history books.

Hey, that could all change soon. His most recent winner was a 3YO in a 20k maiden claimer at Evangeline last Friday night. They completed the six panels in 1:13.74 and the comment was "all out at the finish." He's trained and owned by Minus J. Gisclar II and got a Beyer of 52. He's taking the path to stardom via the bayou.
