Zayats crew is boarderline embarrassing. The way the horses are bought, spotted, campaigned, its a complete joke. Youd be hardpressed to find a group that has more highdollar busts than Zayat

Mott refuses to dope for Zayat, so he gets canned.

Maybe they don't pay as much or have as many horses but the Klavarich crew probably is right up there for incompetence when it comes to picking horses. Someone pays 1/20th what they pay for horses would probably get comparable results.

Agree... been saying this for a while.

Klaravich has had some success at least along the way. What has Zayat done? His best horse is a turf miler that requires a perfect trip to even be competitive. His 2nd best horse is a sprinter that folds under pressure. The rest of horses just plain suck for the money he spends.

Seth Klarman's greatest success, dollar for dollar, came when Gary Sciacca trained his horses.

Klaravich sure waited for the absolute peak time to jump on the T. Pletcher bandwagon.

I remember he had Subordination with Sciacca, he was a pretty low purchase price, right?

andy - what about west point , i always felt that they were aggressive as well

High Finance was never the same after the Belmont and Lear's Princess probably should not have run in the BC

as you know , i do know an owner , and he tells me he has no say in what races the horses go to , it's pretty much up to mgmt

I think they paid $50,000 or maybe $70,000...

SUBORDINATION

21 Starts: 11-3-1 ($1,221,068)

At 3: Won Crown Royal Hollywood Derby (G1), Jamaica H. (G2), Hill Prince S. (G3)

At 4: Won Eddie Read H. (G1), Brooklyn H. (G2), Belmont Breeders' Cup H. (G2), Fort Marcy H. (G3), Canadian Turf H. (G3)

They also did well with Currency Arbitrage. And others...

They also had a filly named Illiquidity who Gary bought for $30k and they sold for mid six figures.

Umm, Violette doesn't train for free either and he hasn't had anything close to Subordination for the money.

IMO, they are all pikers compared to Ward/Oxley who wrote the book on how to win a "one other than" with an $800k purchase.

Not to take a side in the argument, as I don't have one, but what about Read the Footnotes?

I disagree. Z Humor has been very well-spotted and managed this year IMO.

Lear's Princess beat Rags to Riches in the Gazelle so she did "figure" in the BC as long as she could handle the mud. High Finance was spotted a bit agressively, IMO. I don't know of any partnership that allows shareholders to decide on placement.

Zayat has had some nice prospects fizzle. How'd that Maimonides work out? Z Fortune should have stayed in NY (or returned after not lighting things up in the Derby preps.) He was a NY bred who could have been useful. I like Premium Wine but he never quite seems to get there. Was (is) J Be K theirs? He's a nice sprinter, a useful type but not exactly championship caliber.

They spent alot of money for alot of horses. They'd have been better off with more focus and less of a wide net approach.
