Bold Ruler had cancer in his late teens and since he was the Storm Cat of his era, every effort was made to save him - surgery, radiation, etc. Seem to recall that the cancer was in his throat but could be wrong.

I was a student at Auburn University when they brought the great Bold Ruler to the vet school for cobalt treatments. There was a lot about him in the school paper. He had a nasal tumor just below the brain pan if I remember correctly. The treatments shrunk the tumor sufficiently to get him another stallion season before the cancer took over and he was humanely put down.

chester house also succumbed to cancer when it spread to his lungs ---I can't remember where the initial cancer was .

No wonder he isn't the same horse he was last year. This is very, very serious. He really may be a great sprinter. I just hope they can save him! This is just horrible! Now two of our stars are in fighting for their lives...

They also have alot of treatment options available for horses now too. The location of the cancer, how big the tumor is, and whether or not it has metastisized are all factors for determining how the cancer should be treated.
