Tizlater broke down yesterday and was later euthanized. :(

Ok girl, you are confusing me today. Very sad for Tizlater. Hate to see or hear when something like that happens.

It was on TVG this past Saturday or Sunday that LITF was going to be retired and sold soon. Not sure if this colic isn't a little bit of gas they are spinning into a good reason to stop on him and sell. Either way if his fee is above 5k, his book shouldn't fill.

LITF will be an interesting stallion to watch because you don't normally see a champion sprinter with this sort of pedigree. His sire (Lost Soldier) was a stakes winner at 9f and is out of a Secretariat mare.
His broodmare sire Dr. Carter was a multiple graded stakes winner at 10f and has sired some solid route runners himself like former Canadian HOY Benburb. LITF has the pedigree of a router but he never tried it himself and he was an eclipse award winning sprinter. That sounds like a recipe for a good stallion.

On the other hand many question whether he ever beat anybody and if his eclipse award was a fluke (see the really long thread on this board regarding this topic) and while his pedigree is solid, Lost Soldier and Cloud Break don't exactly make for a sure thing.
It is always difficult to predict what these horses will do as stallions but in LITF's case I think it is even more difficult than usual.

Wow that is too bad. I guess it really does not matter how good of a stallion he turns out to be now, I just hope that he gets to be a stallion.

There was a big debate about how good of a racehorse this guy was awhile back, but I know we all hope that he somehow recovers from this, but you are right, it doesn't sound very good.

BB, you can jump all over me, but poor LITF. Anyone who's worked with a horse with cancer knows it really does affect them, and something that big (which may have grown rather quickly) could certainly explain some of his performances this year...although if it doesn't, I don't really care. I just hope they take care of it and that it hasn't metastasized. Cancer in animals is so tough to detect sometimes. Here's hoping all goes well.

I'm unaware of cancer surgery in horses. Anyone ever hear of it? This is just so sad.

I'm trying to think...we had a couple of horses with cancer at our barn, but obviously in nonprofit land the treatment options are a lot more limited...I might email my vet friend to see if she knows.

Bold Ruler had cancer in his late teens and since he was the Storm Cat of his era, every effort was made to save him - surgery, radiation, etc. Seem to recall that the cancer was in his throat but could be wrong.

I was a student at Auburn University when they brought the great Bold Ruler to the vet school for cobalt treatments. There was a lot about him in the school paper. He had a nasal tumor just below the brain pan if I remember correctly. The treatments shrunk the tumor sufficiently to get him another stallion season before the cancer took over and he was humanely put down.

chester house also succumbed to cancer when it spread to his lungs ---I can't remember where the initial cancer was .
