Appreciate the compliment, but John Henry's career falls right before my interest in the game commenced. I just don't have a personnal point of reference to draw on to produce a meaningful essay. As I said on 'At the Races' yesterday when I reached out for Steve Haskin, (who wrote the Thoroughbred Legends series John Henry book), those that had a real connection to the immortal gelding would be best putting him in historical context. Obviously I've been remiss on columns since before Saratoga began... I've sat down several times to get a new piece together and have been thwarted by one thing or another.

Gary West could be a good source . He ha s praised this horse on numerous occasions in his local writing for the Star Telegram, Morning news and times Herald.. Not for sure he had a direct interest or just writing with access to his records.
