I was hoping to see a nice little piece on John Henry posted on the home page this morning. Steve, I really enjoy your writing and would love to read more. Just one posters' opinion.

W/D,

Appreciate the compliment, but John Henry's career falls right before my interest in the game commenced. I just don't have a personnal point of reference to draw on to produce a meaningful essay. As I said on 'At the Races' yesterday when I reached out for Steve Haskin, (who wrote the Thoroughbred Legends series John Henry book), those that had a real connection to the immortal gelding would be best putting him in historical context. Jon White also spent 15 minutes recounting his experiences with "John". Both did the subject better justice than I could...

Obviously I've been remiss on columns since before Saratoga began... I've sat down several times to get a new piece together and have been thwarted by one thing or another.

Gary West could be a good source . He ha s praised this horse on numerous occasions in his local writing for the Star Telegram, Morning news and times Herald.. Not for sure he had a direct interest or just writing with access to his records.

If anyone comes across articles remembering the great John Henty please let me know. I would love to read them.

Steve--great use of the word "thwarted."

Jon White, the wonderful HRTV host, Xpressbet columnist and Santa Anita program handicapper-paddock host (and weekly ATR guest), has graciously given me permission to use his John Henry tribute column as the front page column..

Those looking for an appreciation of the legend from someone who knew him well, will love it...

Thanks Jon... and John.
