Oh well... SPENCER SUPERB ON CESARE Jamie Spencer successfully adopted his customary waiting tactics with aplomb when he guided Cesare to victory in the Group Two Sony Summer Mile Stakes at Ascot. The former champion jockey held Cesare up in last position as the well-backed 2/1 favourite Echo Of Light was handed an easy lead in the round mile contest. However, Godolphin's charge has always shown a tendency to shift left-handed and when Kerrin McEvoy asked the leader for maximum effort he veered into Dunelight two furlongs out. The move gave Royal Oath the chance to take over on the far rail under Jimmy Fortune, initially blocking the run of Cesare as Spencer made his move. However, once straightened out the 11/4 shot quickened decisively to seal victory in the £85,000 event, with Royal Oath a gallant second. Echo Of Light hung left all the way up the straight and was eventually run out of third place by Heaven Sent. |
