What does this mean?

I was looking at the results from Santa Anita race 5 and it said that Jump Rope Girl was bleeding from the mouth. She was on lasix for the race and i think maybe bute. Is this a bad sign for the future or is it something that happens often?

Lasix is used of course to keep a horse from bleeding...if the horse "bled through" the lasix that is not a good sign...probably a long rest is in order! A serious event can end a horse's career...Demon's Begone in the Derby?

What you can run your hoses on Bute ?
HaHaHa wow you americans allow everything :-) Remind me to send over my shin sore & broken horses over there .
we try to run our horses on bute but the stewards are so nice they give us a 2 year holiday if they catch us;-)

Not necessarily 'bled' as in 'bled and needs lasix'... May have bit her tongue during the race.. That's why you see tongue ties on many horses.. There isn't a way for the chart caller to know she "bled" in terms of the way we automatically think..

horses breathe through their noses... it's highly unlikely that the blood came from anywhere other than her mouth...could be she bit her tongue like steve said or a bitting issue...

Also if horse is pulling hard they can cut the side of their mouths.In mares its usually a sign that they've had enough & need a spell

Steve, exactly what I was going to say. This Fall, we had a horse bite his tongue at Churchill. It looked pretty bad, but were happy to discover that this guy had only bitten his "fatty"tongue......don't actually think he could close his teeth w/out his tongue hanging out.

This filly had a lot of trouble before the gate ever opened.She was pretty crazy in the paddock,and very washed out.Didn't do well in the starting gate either.
