I find the article puzzling as this horse developed a problem right after the Saratoga win, I believe, and the connections were pretty vague about what happened to him. Maybe I am wrong but I feel like Cannon Shell responded to someone asking about this horse a while ago that his career was probably over.

Maybe I am confused, and it was a different horse, but the way this horse disappeared after that big win bothers me.

Cannon Shell responded to me when I inquired about Chace City. I thought his career was totally over as well. I was a bit puzzled to read that he was training.

Thanks, I thought I remembered that, and I am very dubious that he was training.

Is it just me or does Assmussen have an abnormal number of "disappearances"? Possibly (tangentially) related to reasons a 6 month suspension would be handed down? I think not.

Didn't his leading Derby contender last year go down as well (or am I thinking of someone else?)

Tiz Wonderful is an Assmussen horse.

These scenerios have become as predictable as they have become tiresome.

Yes- that I'm aware of as well. What was the horse someone paid an ungodly amount for last year, I think he won the Lane's End, virtually guaranteeing him a spot in the Derby, when he dropped dead of an apparent heart attack shortly after?

With a City? I don't think Assmussen trained him, but I could be wrong.

he was purches by peitz for 150k a few months before his lane's end win. they didn't identify his ailment, but it wasn't a heart attack. you must be mixing several horses together in your memory....

Very, very possible...
I could recite past performances of the most obscure NYRA runners off the top of my head but when it comes to what happens to them after the brain turns to mush...

They all have 'em. Speaking of which, where is King of the Roxy? He was a hot ticket for Todd last fall and has not gotten a dot of ink thus far as the articles about the Derby candidates start hitting print. I did hear that Chace City has some pretty serious issues that would likely preclude further racing but it was pretty much hearsay, though I admit it was from a pretty reliable "hearsayer."

Keeping him at sprints (good choice). Heard the Swale is a likely next stop.

I am dubious that he was ever alive to take a breath in 2007 let alone train
