![]() Hey all,
Just wanted to say an online friend of mine, Laurie McDowell, has a horse named Sky Pegasus running for the first time in a maiden special weight at Laurel on Sunday in the 7th. It's 5 1/2 furlongs but she doesn't really figure he's a sprinter. Does anybody have thoughts on how they think he'll do and will any of you be watching the Laurel races that day? I'd love to hear how you think he looked since those of us that know her on this other board have followed Sky Pegasus since day 1 of her ownership and we're all kinda biased proud aunts and uncles. Here's the pedigree: http://www.pedigreequery.com/sky+pegasus He's by Fusaichi Pegasus out of Sky Legend by Deputy Minister. His second dam is Sky Beauty. ![]() I have been following him and plan on recording the race, I wont be able to see it live. He's from one of the best families in the game and I hope he does well. I haven't seen the pp's for the race but might be able to download them tonight.

![]() How'd he look?
He finished 9th but apparently looked around like nobody's business per the jockey. But he was smart, see. He said 'getting hit in the face with a bunch of dirt is for the birds and if I drop back and conserve myself no dirt! I'm a frickin' genius!' Laurie said she's figuring it's a matter of getting him up to running in 2 turns because Laurel doesn't do 1 1/16 or whatever it was she'd rather enter him in so it might be 7 furlongs next. He gets a fire under him in company so she's hesitant to do the blinkers thing. Also he's apparently a typical temperamental FuPeg when it comes to exactly what constitutes listening to what people tell him to do. |

![]() Laurel is such a goofy track. Where else are there two finish lines: one for mile races, and one for everything else?

![]() Incidentally, Sky Pegasus must have something incredibly amiss - or everybody just completely missed the boat - for him to go for $10k at the FT Mid-Atlantic auction of all places. I'd love to see a photo of the old boy.

Here's Laurie's webpage gallery. Shots of Sylvester Questor are on the site in various places and he's training in dressage because he was getting super bored in retirement. There are some more recent Sky Pegasus photos and some from when she first got him. In the beginning she had to stop his training and put him on a serious diet otherwise she was afraid he'd blow out all 4 suspensories. The horse had man boobs. She nearly gelded him but after much discussion and kindly entertaining our thoughts on the subject she opted to just remove his undescended testical (he was a ridgling). He got his competitive urges going after that and given his pedigree and how he looked she wanted to give him an opportunity to run without wishing she'd left him one of the family jewels. She'd always said she'd not leave a colt intact unless he was a good specimen that arrived in a helicopter and was dumped on her front yard practically gift wrapped. She bid on him sorta as joke because she'd liked him but figured he'd never go for a low price and found herself the high bidder much to her amazement. I think there were some horses going for much less than they were worth at that auction if I'm remembering right and his being a FuPeg seemed to appear like a strike at the time. After being operated on SP's days as a sweet lil noncompetitive puddytat (because it tried to bleep the actual word) were over and he's got a watered down set of neuroses. Might be enough to get him somewhere. Last edited by Merlinsky : 12-19-2006 at 01:37 PM. |

He'll be in the 3rd at Laurel on Wednesday at 1 mile on dirt. Poor dear's 20-1. Anybody gonna be able to catch it? He should do a bit better but he probably needs another turn and s'more distancem, again per Laurie. If anybody sees him up close I'd love to get your impression as all I've seen are pictures. What do you think of his competition? |

Fairgrounds (and possibly KEE) used to have such an arrangement. Oaklawn does as well. It's not that uncommon. I'll probably see Sky's race. I haven't had a chance to look over the pp's yet. |
