Yes, next Saturday, November 21. First post is 1:15 CST. Stakes filled card with Pick 4 Races 4-7.

Attended my first Jackpot in 2006 to support post-Rita recovery there. Will see my 9th Jackpot of last 10 next week. I missed snowy 2009 event.

It is fun day in sun (usually) watching races on Sabine Sand. I describe Delta Downs as 6-furlong bull ring with 'drag strip' front chute. Very unique configuration. See Google Maps or Earth for visual.

Delta has great workers who exhibit friendliness and show pride in their facility. Don Stevens, track announcer and simulcast host, is both engaging and entertaining as he describes the day's action.

Oh, and this isn't Cajun region, just over 4 miles from Texas. It is all cowboy and cowgirl place!

Thanks for attaching 'visual'! Long run into first turn proves tricky for some horses and riders. It is banked just like NASCAR oval. Closers must begin move as soon as they enter backstretch as wire is just over 3/8s away. Riding tactics rule this here.

Birdbirdistheword, Big Drama, and Goldencents all handled this surface well in their respective wins. Calder and Woodbine connections usually do well here.

well, perhaps my perception of nearby is different from yours....to find a decent meal where I live, you have at least an hours drive.
we went to san jacinto battlefield when we went to DD a few years back...it was 'nearby'...and I recommend anyone into history go there-if nothing else, to check out the uss texas, an amazing battleship that is right next to the battle monument/museum.
couple hour drive from Vinton I guess.

Thanks so much for kind words. I grew up playing Louisiana Downs. It was built in same year that I turned 18. Moved away from there in my early 30s and drifted away from horse racing. Mostly going to Super Derby with long-time racetrack buddy.

Fast forward to 2004, my dad passed away in Bossier City. I help my mother with succession process. Suddenly, I have a free day. And I decide that I will take a day at the races. LaD was running live and simulcasting was new experience for me. Well, I had very nice day. I am 'low-rent' player (aka $100 or less bankroll and smallish bets). Made about $500. Did it again next day. Smartly, went home and discovered plethora of resources online. This remains my favorite forum.

Katrina created opportunity for me to work 40 straight days in late 2005 -- bad news. It damaged Fair Grounds. Three weeks later, Rita ravaged Delta Downs. FG moved its meet to LaD in early 2006. I got to see two great horses that winter, Lawyer Ron and Brass Hat. Fast forward to December and I decided to attend my first Jackpot. First, to support its recovery. Second, the novelty of $1 million race just 130 miles from home. Lastly, Birdbirdistheword had won turf race at LaD. Yes, I had him tabbed that day and he was now entered in Jackpot. As storybook endings go, this one delivered as Birdbirdistheword triumphed and I cashed every thing but superfecta! Now, I go every year except 2009 when it snowed!

As shared by me and others in this thread, it is quirky, fun little track in absolute middle of nowhere. Without racino and Boyd Gaming, this place would have probably expired years ago. Now, I can look forward to seeing what Exaggerator, Sunny Ridge, and Harlan Punch do moving forward. Sidebar, La Appassionata may be mostly striking horse that I have ever seen upclose since I saw Rachel Alexandra as 3YO at Fair Grounds. She didn't seem to like yesterday's wet/drying/sealed surface.

Hey, this is long thank you. It is nice when someone acknowledges your passion for something like horseracing. Put third Saturday in November on your calendar next year for another Jackpot Day! Hope that Delta Mile finally gets Grade 3 recognition, too.
