Acorn; jockey question

Can someone tell me why Velazquez wouldn't ride Adieu in this spot? Gomez has never ridden the horse before, Velazquez is healthy, rode her nearly all of last year, and doesn't have another mount in the race! The only thing I can think of is Pletcher promised Gomez the ride not thinking JV would be back in time for Belmont day, but I don't think that's too likely.

Any insight?

It's also interesting that Dutrow is swapping jockeys on his two fillies. Oracle, you have anything on this?
