Have they already decided to cancel today's turf races?

Tim, I think the last two races are ON. That is what they were saying yesterday.

Thanks pal. So Biancone got his wish when he entered Spanish Chestnut in the 4th. Everyone knows he wasnt running this horse on the turf, yet he did not enter him as a main track only so he would not wind up stuck on the outside (which actually wouldnt be all that bad, considering he drew the rail).

Andy explained this "loophole" that NYRA has to fix. Otherwise you can kiss main track onlys goodbye. Doesnt really make any sense to declare this when you do what Biancone did. Barclay Tagg did this same thing at Saratoga with Auguri and it worked like a charm.

I hadn't thought about mto's that way but it makes perfect sense to not want to declare and get stuck outside...thanks for sharing gander.

Entering Auguri was Robin Smullen's idea. Work out perfectly.

Default They are on the turf today

A little birdie told me that all races will now be run on the turf at Belmont today. That includes the 4th. Sorry, Spanish Chestnuts will probably not run.

The 4th was taken off yesterday. The 9th will be on but even though the 10th was left on as of yesterday it was still up in the air.

Of course we could just call the racing office and find out for sure about the 10th now.

Actually, entering in the body of the race so as to not get stuck outside is pretty much only relevent in two turn races. In one turn races people would generally like to be outside.

I can assure you that Patrick did NOT want to be inside with Spanish Chesnut in this race.....turf or dirt. In this case I know this because of a conversation I had with him after the horse finished 3rd on opening day at Saratoga. We were talking and I said it was unfortunate that he didn't clear I'm the Tiger early and get over to the rail as it was a particularly strong inside that day. He then said that while he didn't disagree about the rail on this given day he wanted to keep Spanish Chesnut outside as he is the kind of horse that tends to take off if he is on the rail while he becomes more rateable outside.

Default Only 9th on Turf at Belmont

Only the ninth will be run on the turf.

I would love to bet Dave, but the favorites will win all day today. Bet the chalk.
