Default Imposter horse was the 'favored' horse

SUNLAND PARK, N.M. (KRQE) - A major mix-up at a popular New Mexico racetrack is now under investigation after an imposter took the field in the place of a horse that was favored to win.

“Quiero Dinero” ran as No. 10 Sunday and was favored to win the second race at Sunland Park in southern Dońa Ana County. But a horse named “Sweet Jody Brown” ran in its place coming in fifth.

Wow that is bizarre.

(Oh and are you the real Port Conway Lane or an imposter?)

So the one guy willingly resigns but what happens to the trainer (who said the wrong horse was brought to Sunland cause of a mix up with paperwork)? I mean when exactly did he realize this?

THis is crazy all the way around.

No idea how they make this right...

I still have $20 in various tickets on Life At Ten from the Ladies Classic waiting for Churchill to make a belated announcement that any tickets wagered on her will be honored and refunded.

One of the more bizarre tote glitches happened at Pimlico around 1980 when the newer tote machines didn't comprehend a three ply entry running 1-2-3 and payed out the exacta 1/all for $4. Weeks later they honored the backers of the 7 horse (who finished fourth) their $9 payout but by that time 90% of those tickets were probably cashed for $4. That race did turn out to be profitable for the floor sweepers.

It makes me wonder... If it weren't for the fact that the horse was claimed no one but the connections would know.

I saw the wrong horse caught in the paddock at Philadelphia Park (PARX Racing) once. Other than that I've never seen it happen.

I know the Horse ID staff in NY and they are very thorough. They don't check the tatoo, but they go over each horse, especially the "plain brown" ones. Since the women who do it are "horse people" they are pretty sharp with knowing who's who.

At Tampa they do a tatoo check as they enter the paddock. I think they do the same at Suffolk.

meh. a quarter horse dash, does anyone bet those anyway?

I do play the thoroughbreds at Sunland, and do very well. I would recommend it.

Be prepared to have those tickets for the rest of your life.

Tampa is the only paddock I attend with any regularity, so I just assumed the tattoo check was part and parcel for every track in the nation...

Mind-blowing to me that it isn't required at all tracks - but then again, who's to say that there aren't indiscretions going on even at tracks that do check them... I'd personally like to see the TRPB enact random, post-race tat checks (like drug tests).

May not amount to a hill of sh1t, but like airport security, it reinforces confidence and keeps this whole matter out of the eyes and minds of the public.

i believe most tracks do the check. i know ive have seen it in jersey.

either the checker was in on it or he was not really checking anything but just going thru the motions.

he should be fired promptly.
