Default Garrett Gomez Quote About Discreet Cat

“I felt I had ridden some nice horses – he’s just a beautiful horse. I didn’t ask him to do anything; he did it effortlessly. If anything, I was trying to keep him idled down. He was a little eager early on. They were setting those fast fractions down the backside and he was just galloping. When I pulled up, I told the outrider that he probably went in 1:22 or 1:23 because of the way the track has been. When I saw the teletimer (1:21.53), I was surprised.”

...do you get the feeling he was impressed?...Ahhh, yes....I take it that he feels like this is maybe the best horse he ever sat on by his comments.....WOW!

Anyone still believe the Shieks aren't trump tight?

They just might have a couple of the best horses in the last 10 years right now.....very impressive stuff....

I think this is the best horse in the world. He beat Invasor with ease and he beat some very good older horses today in a public workout. I just think he is better than anything out there. The Sheiks now have officially taken over american racing in my opinion.

I see a Bernardini-Invasor-Discreet Cat 1,2,3 in the BC Classic. Not sure which one wins but they will dominate this race. I am now a believer.

Oh ... good grief ...

.. these jockey quotes about "she's the best little filly I ever rode" ... are completely useless.

Nearly every veteran jockey has said the same thing ... or something similar ... about a dozen different horses in their careers.

NEXT !!!

Sounds like someone that didn't see the race. It looked like he was out for a walk. The horses he beat are very good older horses. Discreet Cat continues to destroy good horses with little effort.

Seems like "someone" didn't read the other threads ...

... but then again ... "someone" ... despite the name change ... has always had his difficulties with reading comprehension.

Hey, Steve ... how's that Remedial Reading Comprehension forum coming along? It can't get here soon enough for "some" people.

I agree he is one of the best horses in the world...but that race on Dubai when he beat Invasor with ease is a little bit suspect.....since some of his big opponents (Gold for Sale and Simpatico Bribon) were detected with tranquilizants on their bloods after the race...lets see how he will do in a country where his owners do not decide who lives and who dies...

Jockey quotes are useless.

I think Gary Stevens said "best I've ever ridden" at least ten times. Probably a lot more.

That's about a month's quota for Gary.

Joel,

That was sick! I was watching the race at a OTB and I heard a couple of construction workers making comments before the race like "I will never bet chalk like that." When the race started they made comments like "The chalk sucks, who ever played him is an idiot." I was just sitting back with a smirk. When Discreet Cat crossed the wire, I tapped when of them on the shoulder and said, "That horse is in the top five in the world." They gave me a crazy look and I left. Super impressive and I'm really looking forward to the Breeders' Cup.

These guys thought it was a 10K claiming race. All they knew was that they can bet against a heavy favorite. LOL

Yep, the Jerome it is....he wins there and they said probably no Breeders' Cup, which I can't really blame them for....they think they have the race won already with Bernardini and Invasor and I think they're right....

Anything could happen though between now and then, obviously, especially with injuries, etc.

If I could wager on where he runs after the Jerome i would bet almost anything that he stretches out to 1 1/8-miles against older horses again in the Grade I Clark at CD in late November...just an educated guess because you figure he'll be there training at CD and pre-enterered in the BC Classic on the precaution that Bernardini goes down - so he would be there and ready for the Clark later that month.....just guessing though... know one thing...my buddy Doug Bredar would be pleased if it were true...

If they don't take him out of NY, 2nd choice Cigar Mile?

"The best I've ever ridden."

Come on now...those words should only be said in a whisper to the ear of a lovely lady that's sharing a pillow.

Last year they wanted to get a graded win for Sundrop before she retired, so they ran her at Churchill after the Breeders' Cup and she crushed a nice field at 7-1. One thing is for sure, they only send them out when they are ready. It's not like they need the money.

With the explosure that ESPN will provide for horse racing, it will definitely only help the popularity of the sport. During the halftime of one of their NFL games they will carry the Meadowlands Cup on ESPN2. The sport needed a shot in the arm like the UAE Shiek runners.

Yeah Gus, those kind of performances send chills down your spine...this was my Derby horse before they decided not to run him....He and Bernardini are pounds above the rest of the 3-year-olds in the world IMO....even George Washington and all Euros included - although I will admit i don't follow them super closely....I also think Henny Hughes is one of the best of his generation - just as a Sprinter and not a router....the Shieks are LOADED!

...Probably no BC for Discreet Cat though, Gus...r at least that is what they are claiming right now and I really can't blame them to be honest with you...they probably feel like they already have the race won with Bernardini and Invasor - and I think they are right...
