Default Does anyone else feel this way?

I can't put my finger on it, but for the first time in forever I just have no interest/feeling in watching the derby. Reasons could be, I am personally so drained/horsed out after spending the entire Oaks day card at Belmont yesterday. I feel like I had so much vested yesterday with the great card, weather and day to myself that nothing today can replacate it. Obviously the weather just complicates everything today as well. It just makes a race with no real standouts or tosses for that matter, a bit harder than it already is. I usually have a strong opinion on the race, it's usually wrong but it's still an opinion. Like I said, it just seems that wide open today that it's almost like playing the lottery. Also the race hasn't even been run and it seems like the Triple Crown fever is dead or really has never got started. So what kind of excitement is today's winner going to generate. The race is most likely going to be a toss for everyone involved, due to the slop.
Maybe it's just me maturing and realizing that this is a very tough spot to waste/make some money even if you have an opinion, let alone have absolutely no feel at all. I'll probably end up putting in a small bet. Not sure I'll be home to see the race live, but it really doesn't seem to faze me. Going to try to take advantage of the beautiful day here in the northeast with the family. It's probably just me, but does anyone else feel this way?

Perhaps because there isn't isn't an accomplished, fast horse in the race? Or that 3/4's of the field is just happy to be there and is hoping for a miracle? Or perhaps you are an experienced racing fan with a small sense of history and already know that this edition wont be featured on ESPN classic in 20 years? Or maybe the over the top overhyping of the race rings a little hollow? Or you are just hungover/depressed that one of the top 10 horses of all time got beat again and your Racheal Alexandra rookie cards are now worth less than your Rafael Palmiero rookie cards are?

I'm not as hyped up about it as in previous years, but it's THE DERBY. It's the 1st jewel in the TC.

We gotta get your spirits up. If you don't get excited about the Derby, the Real Housewives win!

That nails the way I feel. Plus this being the 2nd Derby in a row in gloomy weather and slop doesn't help.

I know it's making me lazy in my handicapping. I'll still venture down to the Los Alamitos OTB in about an hour to place my Derby bet though. Then back to Disneyland. Second year in a row watching the Derby while on a road trip.

After several sorts I'm back to something I posted earlier this week I wouldn't do. Go with SC and LAL hitting the board. SC getting a nice trip, and Gomez finding a way to get LAL up there.

Anything with Reserve in it's name is out of my price range. I will, however, find a suitable replacement.

Well said Chuck and Math.

I can't make a solid case against all but a couple of horses. Everyone is laughing at Homeboykris. Isnt he a grade 1 winning two year old that beat SuperSaver and Nobles promise, two horses that are bound to take plenty of money? Isnt he running for a trainer that is known to be pretty good with the layoff and the needle? Isnt his jockey the number 1 jockey in the country right now?

My point isn't about who Im betting. I am just saying that this race is muddled garbage. From a beyer perspective alone, can anyone remember a derby that was even close to being this bad?

Still, Im a junkie. I will watch.

It's the Derby, Matt. I'm not on pins and needles like I sometimes am, and that's probably because of the middling field, but in my eyes Derby day still is the best racing day of the year now that the BC has been completely watered down.

Weather is the issue for me. I may wager less than 10% of what I normally would on Derby day.

I just played my $75 dollars worth of lottery tickets. A 5 horse $2 dollar exacta box Ice Box, Devil May Care, Jackson Bend, Awesome Again, Dublin (2,11,13,16,17). Then $1 dollar tri 2,11,16/2,11,13,16,17/2,11,13,16,17.
In 5 minutes I'm putting the boys in the car and we're going to Six Flags. Maybe if I'm not feeling like a sissy I'll go on El Toro . Good Luck and enjoy the rest of the days guys. I hope everyone makes some money today. Oh yeah, who ever brought up the point about time in between races is spot on. It's just ridiculous.
