His nuts aren't the problem. Spirit of Cochise is a pretty good claim, he is a Cal-bred with a bunch of conditions left, and has a real good Del Mar race to go back to. He would pay his way next year and probably chip away at the 50k investment |

While ultimately this roguish behavior (which should be viewed as a major negative if considering a claim) may have nothing to do with his testicles, its probably a good place to start. Quote:

![]() Yankee Bravo wouldnt be a terrible claim if you had some idea about his current physical condition. His trainer seemingly has run out of ideas after blinks on then off then on again and different surface switches. The first thing I would do is geld him and give him 45 days off. Then try a dirt surface. At least he had quite a bit of talent at one time.
The claim in that race if you gave me the 50k would be Usurp. I would immediately ship him out of CA to Philly/NY inner where his natural speed is a plus and wont be used against him. |

It would also seem like Ron Ellis would be a decent trainer to claim off of since he doesn't seem to overwork his horses. NT |

While he hasn't missed much time this year (aside from a 2 month break after his comeback win), there are red flags starting to pop up. First, Ron Ellis is quoted as saying he came out of his work prior to the Pomona race "a little funky". In that race he got out horribly going into the first turn and finished up the race short strided (whereas he usually fought gamely--even when losing--in prior starts). Either he was hurting, didn't particularly care for dirt, or both. In his last 2, he has not shown his customary :44+ speed and has finished off the board. Given that he finished in the exacta in 7 of his first 9 starts while racing on the front end, this doesn't bode well. In addition to dropping down a level today, he also does not have a recorded breeze since his last race. If he is able to hold up for a few more races, it would be interesting to see how he handles two turns, given his pedigree (his 2nd dam is a Grade 1 winner BTW). |
