Default Drilling for Oil

I posted this on whatever happened to but this deserves a thead of its own.

Can't even post what I hope happens to these bastards.

I was a fan of his... I'm sure there are others here.

Sad, sad, sad.

Thieves steal, butcher star racehorse Drilling for Oil

Australian Associated Press | AFP
(no author listed)

It wasn't a glue factory, but it was an untimely end for a star racehorse worth $US270,000 ($A321,390) after thieves butchered him for the meat.

Six-year-old thoroughbred "Drilling for oil" had won races in the United States and was headed for an easy life, out to stud in Peru.

That was before rustlers snagged and killed him, plucking him out of the pasture where he was grazing.

The horse's remains -- really just the head, feet, tail and bones -- were found in Canete, 140km south of Lima, police said on Thursday.

The fillets of horse were sold as beef, authorities said.

Thieves who stole the horse from Israeli owner Hiad Hamide on Tuesday were still running from the law, police said.

Peru is a very poor country, I'm not surprised by this.

It's happened here in California too. It scares me as I live in a very rural secluded area and my 7 horses are alone all day long. I do lock my property up as it's completely fenced in, plus I have 4 German Shepherds loose watching the property. I also post warning signs the dogs will attack and bite, but still, if people want something bad enough, they'll find a way to take it. I feel so sorry for that poor horse, no doubt it wasn't a humane death. I hope whomever eats the meat chokes to death on it.

On a serious note if a horse is slaughtered in what is deemed humane, and people eat the animals meat and use the animals hide, what is the real difference between a cow, lamb, goat, pig or horse? I don't want to eat a horse and I would be horrified to see a horse slaughtered inhumanely but i just ate a USDA prime NY Strip. I can't imagine it was a pretty thing to watch the cow I ate get killed. Better to kill them humanely then have Pags starving them to death right?

I tend to agree but when people are stealing pets and or stallions and chopping them up, there is a problem....Plus how they are killed matters to me. Real Sports did an expose on horse slaughter and what they found in Mexico is disgraceful with regard to how it was done.

I couldn't agree more and know this is a tough subject. Still think the slaughter house (humane of course) is a far better option then a horse starving to death.

That's just it Dell, we have to be realistic about some of this. We breed too many horses just like we breed too many dogs. Its sad but its true. It doesn't mean they should ever be treated in a cruel manner.

Here's an update on this situation. We've got some arrests. It doesn't make it any better, but it's something. Can anybody convince the folks out there that think horse meat has magical curative powers that a)it doesn't and b)you don't take a horse that doesn't belong to you? I guess if you can't get past the first one, there's really no logic to apply to the second.

This is just sick. Where would kids get this idea from? There better be a whole lot more arrests coming from this ASAP.
