![]() I'm scared they won't have the guts to do it. There's already talk about scraping the evil horror of permitting slot machine gambling - more gambling, my gawd! - and adding an extra tax to lottery tickets instead.

![]() Not that this is an instant fix, anyway, especially after the Argosy is unveiling this monster very soon.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/c...0,430004.story They will still have the Cincinnati market covered with this bad-boy, because Turfway won't be able to build anytime soon, and it looks like Ohio has a very good chance in getting the VLT's pretty soon, too. It is going to get alot more interesting before it get any clearer... |

![]() I'm really worried this won't get passed. There is too much fanatic opposition to adding more gambling outlets (hence the proposal to put a tax on lotto tickets instead); and some want to try and use federal stimulus funds to balance the budget and get us out of debt - eliminating any "states share of VLT's to put us in the black year after year" argument. And McConnell will go whichever way the wind blows - he's not fully aggressive for the horse industry interests. Hope I'm wrong.

![]() I place the blame, if it doesn't pass, on the anti-gambling self-rightous religious zealots that are pounding on the members of the legislature. The only thing that could sway the legislaters vs their constituents is money, as we're in a bad way. Well, they have already come up with the ideas of the 10% lotto tax instead of approving VLT's, and using state stimulus funds instead of any change to current gambling. They are furious over what was said today about the legality (as it eliminates a roadblock). But McConnell got reelected partly on the promise of slots, and he hasn't exactly been the leader on them. I don't see him exerting the pressure that he could. He won't risk it against the anti-gamblers. All he cares about is getting back to Washington.

![]() I was born and raised in Kentucky, and after a few years out of there the one thing that is painfully obvious is that politics always rule the day. Wether it be the county or state level, nothing gets done unless the big fish are getting paid. This is more reason for the mountain boys and less educated areas of the state to just dismiss the VLT idea outright.
Many careers have been made by giving condescending direction to unknowing, apathic constituents and these con artists play it up with the best of them. And as mentioned before, the special interest (i.e. out of state gaming ops) know this well and aren't afraid to lube the squeaky parts.
