Another check up in a few weeks (at 30 days) before we can be sure all is well. If so, she will will move sometime during the summer to NY.

i'm not very familiar with ny breeding rules. does she just have to foal there or does she have to be bred back to a ny stallion as well?

To run in NY bred races she just has to foal there. There are additional NY stallion races which require being bred to a NY stallion.

There is probably a date that she has to be 'in-state' to qualify.

For example, in Illinois, you can keep a mare on Mars until October 30th, but she has to be IN STATE on November 1st, and they have like 25 people that spend two weeks going to farms to verify, after they foal, they can leave right away.

NY bred conditions...

Resident Mares: Must be continuously in residence in New York State from within 90 days after last cover in the year of conception, and thereafter remain in residence until FOALING the following year, with no breed-back required.

Non-Resident Mares: Must FOAL in New York State, be BRED BACK to a registered New York-based stallion, and remain for a continuous period of 90 days after foaling.

so, since she's shipping soon, i guess you're going for 'resident' status, which requires no breed back?

What...why should NY make that any easier for owners than it does everything else?..It's amazing that people actually want to own and race horses in NY the way they nickel and dime you to death.

EDIT...That's kind of harsh on my part...Let's just say that with all the special fees and deductions from purse accounts, the seperate set of silk rules that are different from every other state and the less than user friendly licensing offices, it wouldn't be my first choice to race unless I lived there.

Its great that our DT baby is going to be a NY bred... one of the BEST breeding incentive programs out there... like 2nd behind New Mexico (GREAT incentive programs).

Pennsylvania is real good also in this category.
