![]() Race 5 #3 Here Comes Ben - The clocker's comments for this one on KEE's website look really promising:
On 3/25 going 6F, "Went easily, in company with Valerian, responded well when asked and pulled away." It's a big plus that he has already gone this far, especially over the track - should be fit. Valerian is unraced, but is by Empire Maker out of Keeper Hill (Deputy Minister) - MG1SW monster who won the Oaks in '98 for Frankel and two other G1s, finished 3rd in the Distaff, etc. . . On 4/1 going 4F, "nice workout in even splits." The trainer, Lopresti, has good stats in the relevant categories from a limited sample size (2/4 w/ a $20 ROI w/ FTS and 9/57 for a $2.54 ROI on synth) and already has one winner at the meet. Race 7 #5 Lady Shakespeare - This one won her debut sprinting on the turf @ woodbine @ 9/5 last year with a very impressive run from far back. Then she was put in a G3 but didn't run too well as the favorite w/ a bit of a trip. She's been off since September, but her works look fine and Attfield is very good off lay-offs like this (23% for a $3.03 ROI). I also expect that she's done some maturing during her time off. Her pedigree is ridiculous - by a G1 winning turf mare and a full sister to turf monster Shakespeare. This trainer/owner have already won a turf race this meet. |
