After racing was completed at the Curragh, Aidan O'Brien worked 48 of his horses in three separate heats that looked very much like practice races. Mastercraftsman, currently the favorite for the 2000 Guineas, finished a close fourth behind listed-placed Poet in his seven-furlong heat, in which Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf runner-up and French 2000 Guineas candidate Westphalia was third. Rip Van Winkle, who suffered an overreach two months ago that cost him 2000 Guineas favoritism, could only manage sixth in his one-mile heat.
