Outstanding racing throughout the country this weekend, but my major focus will be on the BVQE contest races on Saturday, which is practically the whole Hollywood card sprinkled with a few races from the FG & HAW.

Churchill Downs

R2 - MSW 42k

#13 Awesome Fleet - $1.4 Million purchase half sister to Afleet Alex looks to draw in from the AE list. Didn't show much in debut at KEE, but I expect her to wake up in a big way on the conventional dirt and should handle two turns.

R5 - Grand Canyon 56k (Turf)

#6 Smart Shot - Victorious in debut over 13 rivals at LRL and packing bullets in the a.m.. Trombetta seems fit to ship in.

R9 - G2 Golden Rod

#1 Sara Louise - Should have no problems stretching out after she drew off like a champion in the G3 Pocahontas. This is a salty rendetion, so you'll get close to 2-1.

R11 - G2 Kentucky Jockey Club

#3 Beethoven - These guys only send them out when they have a big chance and he owns a victory on this surface at today's distance. Not sure if he'll want anymore real estate, but 8.5 furlongs is well within his scope.


Aqueduct

R7 - G3 Remsen

#6 Old Fashioned - Not real clever picking the unanimous choice, but he's been extremely impressive in his two starts. Has been able to overcome awkward starts in both races and must correct that as the competition gets stiffer. His high cruising speed should help him handle the 9 panels without any trouble before he heads to the Big Easy for his sophomore campaign. I've been a fan since his debut where he was sent off at 12-1 (Why ? 800K purchase by Unbridled's Song trained by Larry Jones that has trained the 2nd place finishers in the last two runnings of the Derby). He must now prove his talent on a bigger stage (Big Apple) and try to bank some important graded money

*Graded money will be at a premium for the '09 Derby because of the Godolphin purchases (Vineyard Haven and Midshipman) along with the win and you're in race in Great Britain next spring. So essentially there are only 17 spots for the Derby.

It's too bad the 1400K Awesome Fleet couldn't draw in, I would have loved to have played her also. Would have been a real wake up possibility.
