Default Breakfast at Saratoga

Has anyone done the breakfast and the tram tour at Saratoga? I will be there this Saturday with my grand children. I only hope Steve has another day Saturday like he had today. Thanks Steve I had a good day but not as good as yours.

Thanks Obie1

I've done the tram thing but not the breakfast. You're probably better off bringing your own breakfast. Stop at Dunkin Donuts on the way to the track and sit in the Grandstand or the clubhouse and watch the work outs than take the tram ride.

Exactly. Way better off grabbing some breakfast and coffee in town and bringing it in. You can sit anywhere you want. Its very cool. If you arent familiar with downtown Saratoga, its only 1 mile away and you can get Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, or one really good bagel & coffee place, named Uncommon Grounds. All these places within a short distance from each other on Broadway.
The Tram Tour, I imagine would be really neat. Never done it but I have heard its fun.

Agree with all above. Make sure to tour the clubhouse. I've just walked around up to the third floor including the press area. Fantastic view from the there. On the second floor you can sit anyhere you want i.e. Mary Lou Whitney's box.

They use to have a smal stand that sold coffee and danishes as you enter as well.

The earlier you get there the better and make sure to enjoy Mary Ryan who will be sitting in the clubhouse area and give details of the horses, trainers, and riders as they work out. She's really amazing.

Have fun,

Spyder

There's usually a long line for the tram rides on weekends. Be prepared to wait 30 minutes or more --- even bring some chairs to sit in when you wait in line.

I am sure the tram tour will be fun with the kids. I've never take the tour myself, but I see it every morning on the backstretch. The tour guide points out Funny Cide on the track, Curlin, etc. and people seem to get into it. Usually around the coffee stand, jocks and trainers are hanging out so people get to see them as well.

As far as the breakfast, if you are talking about the buffett on the porch, downstairs, I've been there. It's a basic breakfast buffett -- mass produced eggs, potatoes, bacon, bagels, pastries, fruit, etc. They do serve Krispy Kreme donuts though! LOL. It's OK, that's all.

If you'd rather go into town -- for breakfast -- I like Ravenous (crepes) and Beverly's, and breakfast at the Horseshoe. If you want a buffett, try Bookmaker's at the Holiday Inn.

If you don't have a pass to get you back there to walk around you might want to get a tour of the Oklahoma track. I remember they used to have some type of tour just for Oklahoma. I don't think that tram goes there. The tram is something your grandkids will enjoy.

The breakfast buffet is ok but not cheap.

There's a diner on Broadway south of town - I forget the name - may actually be "Saratoga Diner" , but it's always packed... anyhow waited one morning for about 45 minutes and to be honest, it was less than average.

The best and most uncrowded buffet in town that I've found is at the Hilton Garden Inn.

If you know someone with a license and can finagle them to go with you, You can watch the workouts from the backside and there's an excellent (and cheap) little breakfast shack back there as well... Pretty cool to watch them gate train in the AM upclose

The tour of the barn area is great. It is so picturesque and peaceful listening to the horses winnow so early in the morning. It is a great experience that you will long remember. Every fan should do it at least once. It makes you appreciate the people and the horses that make up this great sport.

No pass needed. Just look like you belong and drive on in. ie wave to the guard while driving 10mph. If that doesn't work just walk in one of the hundred unguarded entrances.

Or just run over the guard. Stop making things so difficult Dell.

The breakfast buffet sucks, half your table can't even see the works and the food is average and obnoxiously overpriced. Just bring your own food.

If you want to see the Oklahoma barns just park in free parking and walk through on your way back. They are real nice at most of the barns.
