Default Favorite Saratoga Reference...

Scent of a Woman:

Pacino says: "By the time they get back it's going to be opening day at Saratoga."

Parcells is always making horse racing references, but don't remember a Saratoga reference yet.

Actually, it's.."By the time they get to Albany, it'll be opening day at Saratoga."

The best Toga reference will ALWAYS be Carly Simon in You're So Vain...

"Well I hear you went up to Saratoga, and your horse naturally won... (Then you flew your Lear jet up to Nova Scotia to see the total eclipse of the sun).."

The short story that the movie " Legends of the Fall " is based on has its ending in Saratoga, during racing, though unfortunately it was changed for the movie.

And those that are hip to "Nick and Nora", (and Asta), should know there are a variety of Saratoga references sprinkled liberally throughout their stories...

Plus the '30's era Gable-Harlow vehicle "Saratoga".. as well as "Saratoga Trunk" ('40's) with Gary Cooper and Ingrid Bergman based on the Edna Ferber novel..

If I remember correctly, Jean Harlow dumped you for Clark Gable in " Saratoga ".

You, of course, got even when you hooked up with Margaret Rutherford in " Murder at the Gallop ".

Mrs. Upjohn: Are you sure, Doctor, you haven't made a mistake?

Dr. Hackenbush: You have nothing to worry about. The last patient I gave one of those to won the Kentucky Derby.

(Wait a minute.. Wrong Margaret...)

And BTW.. In a bizarre twist in this increasingly delightful thread, the terrific Flora Robson co-starred in BOTH 'Saratoga Trunk' AND 'Murder at the Gallop'!!!

I figured you were making a trip to imdb.

Are you suggesting there was something between you and Margaret Dumont as well?

Here's a movie trivia question.....one the director himself actually told me....what extremely popular movie ( circa 1980 ), that I am certain many members of this board have seen, was essentially written as a Marx Brothers movie? The Margaret Dumont character was actually played by a man ( a very funny man ).
