from a stupid Irishman.. Why arent Hawaii ranked higher than 15 when theyve won all their games (hopefully they continue againt Boise this weekend!!)

Because they have played schools that most high schools could beat. They also have an epic home field advantage with teams having to cross multiple time zones.

They have a SEC team like non-conference schedule without playing in the SEC

i get ya.. i like watching these very strange colleges making a name for themselves.. theyve a big game tomorrow night i suppose against the biggest team theyve come across. I really liked Boise State after last years bowl game. one of the best games of american football ive ever seen - brilliant

It WAS one of the best games ever....at least the ending was. Something that I'll never forget.

the western athletic conference (WAC) overall is not a real good conference but they're games are famously fun to watch.

the lava man analogy is pretty good. when hawaii comes east it's usually only for conference games. thier non-conference games, teams always go to the island, usually at the end of the season. the warriors are famous for burning ranked teams that make the long trip at the end of the season.

hawaii has trouble getting good teams to come out there to play. #1- the expense. 2-the travel. 3- no coaches like to travel that far to face that crazy run-and-shoot offense and get beat!

hawaii is faced with what boise state dealt with last year, a cupcake schedule. their 'tough' opponents aren't. boise state faced one ranked opponent all year last year, and won the bowl game vs that lone ranked team on a last second play. it moved them up, but of course not enough to get a title.
so, the bcs computers run all their numbers, and strength of schedule plays a part. then the human rankings come into play.

all the colleges pad their schedule with some not so difficult teams. it gives them a breather, and smaller colleges some money to play with and pay their bills. trouble comes when they don't have top notch opponents to move them up in the rankings.

Hawaii is in a league which the bottom teams are down more than they usually are. Plus no one any good wants to go to Hawaii and play them there. If I had a ranked team they would be the last non-conference team I would want to mess with. Boise in Boise would be another.
