My mother and father attended the fight in AC after they BIKED 75 miles from Philly to Ocean City for the City to the SHore MS fundraiser. My dad said it was the best fight he has ever went to. That says alot from an old Blue Horizon mainstay, as he's seen more than his fair share of fights.

I guess Pavlik quelled those "big time trainer" idiots.

Pavlik is a huge puncher.
He can hurt you from any range, outside or inside (very good short compact punches for such a long armed guy).

But... he will be beat by a slick boxer. Taylor willfully went to the ropes and counter punched very effectively until the 7th round and the lights went out. It was really a stupid strategy. Taylor was way too bold with this guy.

Taylor was so much faster but he is so flat footed. If Taylor had fought Pavlik like he fought B-hop, he would have won on a decision. But for some strange reason he thought he could out punch Pavlik.

Pavlik getting up after the beating he took in the 2nd round was amazing. Taylor should have put him away but he tired. Stamina issues also for Taylor.

But it was a hugely entertaining fight.

That is a pretty good comparison.
Both guys easy to hit, but when they hit back its crushing.
And both have very long arms.

Good fight. But does anyone really think this kid could have beaten Hearns Los Manas, MMH or SRL back in the day? If he was fighting Hearns, Leonard or Duran, I don't think he would have made it out of that 2nd round.

Did anyone see the Hearns kid's fight?

Last question: nope

First part: nope, Pavlik beats none of them unless he catches them with a lucky one which can happen. Hearns would have killed him. Leonard... he probably would have had no chance but might have lasted. Duran... He might beat Duran as a Middleweight. Duran might have walked right into a punch. Best chance against Duran. Hagler... no chance. I wonder if he could even hurt Hagler.

I also think Pavlik is ripe for the taking. Guys like Winky Wright, who are very slick and can punch hard enough to keep things honest, could beat him on decision. Pavlik will have plenty of takers. The 2nd round of that fight showed vulnerability.
And Pavlik is just straight ahead.

Default Great fight....

Pavlik, to have a thinner frame not ripped is somehow more imposing. He kept coming, backing Taylor up(which is when Taylor excelled punching off the ropes) but the constant pressure wore on him. Then when KP landing that crunching right, Taylor was toast, KP is all guts and a great finisher!

Taylor seemed to have trouble with his height. He could not fight Pavilik like Bhop because he is a totally different style fighter. Personally I thought Taylor was a good fighter but far from unbeatable. For some reason Hopkins respected his power too much and was content to try to just counter Taylor which is playing to Taylors strength. Pavlik is still pretty raw and only has one real weapon, the overhand right, but he is long and tough slow down. Taylor fought pretty well but he just cant finish as shown in the 2nd round. He really has not been impressive lately and will have a really hard time against this guy in a rematch especially at a higher weight.

I think that Pavlik beats Wright too. Wright is a crafty fighter but Pavlik will wear him down and pound him with that right hand. Calgagze, assuming he beats Kessler, would also be a logical next step and I'll admit I have only seen him once pounding an overmatched contender guy so I dont know much about him.

At the beginning of the post, I thought it was about Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Be careful tossing that best p4p around.

He has got a hell of a jab as well. I think the right worked well against Taylor because of the jab. But this kid can throw about everything. He is a very versatile puncher. Its the long kids that dont look that muscular, but are very loose and relaxed punchers, that really hit hard in some of these weight divisions.

He is long and uses the jab to set up the right hand but I didnt see anything but an overhand right from him. But when you hit as hard as he does it is all he needs.

I paid $55 bucks for the worst match ever, the De la Hoya/Mayweather fight on Derby day. I swore off boxing after that.

Then, I was flipping through the channels last night and caught this fight right at the opening bell. I have to say that it was the best fight I think I have ever watched live.

I think I might have changed my mind on boxing...

Glad to see a guy from Youngstown win big, too. Especially with those Ohio State trunks...

He did what worked.
Taylor was vulnerable to the right.
So Pavlik took it.

Take a look at the knockout though. some really sharp upper cuts with both hands in close. Thats whats amazing. He has great sharp in close punches to go with bombs from long range. Knockout artist that can hit you with one big one, or cumlative... You should see some of his other fights. Plenty of guys are going to come knocking for this kid. And I love it because he comes to play hard. But after this fight, the others will probably all go PPV which sux.
