I think Stoute took out Maraahel because, he likes to race him relatively fresh and it looks like a tough race.. He won over 12f at Royal Ascot, though beforehand people thought he was better over 10. He might now go for the King George or even wait til the Juddmonte International.

This doesnt look like a betting race, just sit back, relax and enjoy a few of Europes superstars face off. The bookies favour David Junior to reverse form with Ouija Board from Royal Ascot but it'll be tough. David Junior may not be as good as everyone thought he was. We'll hopefully find out on Saturday.

Alot of people thought that connections were mad for running Ouija Board at Ascot and now just 17 days later, they are running her again (well if all goes to plan this week). She is the class act in the race and I personally have underrated her.

It'll be her fifth run of the year after racing in Dubai, Singapore, Epsom and Ascot. David Junior will be racing for the third time this year!

Of the three year olds, Aussie Rules may bounce back from a bad run in the French Derby.

Thanks MMSC!..Nice field....I have been waiting for Hala Bek to run back...I really thought he was best in the Epsom Derby, but I wanted to bet him back against 3-year-olds and not in a spot like this....Since you are so much more informed will you please let us know when he runs back?...I want to bet him if it is at the right distance against his own generation....Thanks again!

I like Aussie Rules as well..... showed a lot of promise. I'm not saying to win here but as one to watch.

Am wondering who will get the mount on Ace if the (absurd) charges aren't dropped..... poor Kieren.

With or without the divine Ms. Ouija Board, I don't think the race belongs to David Junior by any means. I've always thought he was overated.

Hope you're right and we see Maraahel in the King George.

Mr. Cunningham, I believe Hala Bek is very difficult to keep right, thus only having run once before the Derby. He didnt work well prior to an attempt at the Irish Derby and so, they are preparing him for an Autumn campaign so will miss the King George and other top summer races, with the Arc as his target.. I agree with you that he was very unlucky in the Derby..

I know Brockguy already answered you but just wanted to say i've a special place in my heart for the Jarvis-trained bunch (wonder if Rakti is happy in his retirement... ) so of course... when Hala Bek is back and i read anything of note I'll let you know. Of course Brockguy will probably beat me to it...

Where's Rakti when you need him!

(edit - he's actually VERY nice... just a misunderstanding but alas..... a little PR for Pushkin never hurt, right?)

It damned well better not or I'll revoke you membership in the Rakti / Bulldozer Club(s)!

(Oh God..... and Bulldozer will send even more of those endlessly long and gloomy emails from Hong Kong - bad enough he doesn't get to swim like the other horses ..... please don't do this to me)!

Brockguy...

Actually Aussie Rules might not be all that far-fetched.....

* * * * *
From Sky Sports..... a bit about Royal Alchemist, for anyone who's interested.....

Connections of Royal Alchemist are hoping for a bold show in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown on Saturday.

The four-year-old has only once tackled Group One company, when fifth in last year's Coronation Stakes, but the extra two furlongs she faces now is expected to suit her.

"We've always had it in our minds that we would take our chance in this Group One," said trainer Mark Usher.

"She's very tough, she's very game. There's a chance of some rain and we would hope for some. All things being equal we'll probably let her take her chance. She's in good form at the moment.

The filly was third to Soviet Song in the Group Two Windsor Forest at Royal Ascot on her latest start, and Usher added: "She ran very well at Ascot. I don't know how many Aidan (O'Brien) is going to run in the race, but it could cut up a little bit.

"I think the uphill finish at Sandown will suit her. At Ascot with a furlong and a half to go they just quickened up the pace away from her.

"That was over a mile. This is a stiffish 10 furlongs and she gets it well.

"That will help her and obviously Group One placed would be a massive help to her. If that could be achieved it would be well worth doing and she seems in good heart.

"In all probability it may be her last season, but you never know."

I just backed Hattan at 150-1. Clive Brittain knows how to surprise a few people and he has a class jock (McEvoy) on board. Im so hoping he can be placed..

wow - just read soumillion replaces peslier on ouija. I love christophe but I dot think he'll suit the filly. Also, the english media seem intent to "get" soumillion so losing on their horse Ouija Board would be awful for him!

Just read it too..... good point.

Here's the article from Racing Post (witn NO mention of Ace)...

Nice odds on Hattan, by the way. Best of luck!

Yet another new name in the Ouija saddle
by Jon Lees

OUIJA BOARD will have yet another new name inthe saddle on Saturday after trainer Ed Dunlop was on Tuesday forced to turn to Belgian Christophe Soumillon to take the ride in the Coral-Eclipse Stakes because of the unavailability of Olivier Peslier.

In what will be the ninth different jockey on the mare’s back in her 18th race, French champion Soumillon will link up with the Prince of Wales’s Stakes winner at Sandown.

Peslier was pencilled in to continue aboard Lord Derby’s star after the pair clicked so successfully at Royal Ascot - the riderhaving been called up due to other partners Kieren Fallon, Frankie Dettori and Jamie Spencer each having other commitments.

Yet on Tuesday Peslier too was ruled out by contractual obligations to the Wertheimer family at Deauville to join Fallon, tied to Aidan O’Brien if free to ride in the race, Dettori and Spencer on a star-studded list of unavailable jockeys.

“It’s a great shame that I can’t ride Ouija Board as she won very well last time,” said Peslier. “She is a lovely filly and I think she has a very good chance but I obviously can’t ride her because I have a contract with the Wertheimers.”

Dunlop said on Tuesday: “Olivier Peslier has engagements for the Wertheimers but I have now heard that Mr Soumillon is available so we have booked him.

“Ouija Board seems very versatile and I am sure Mr Soumillon will get on with her. He is not only a world class rider but he has had the benefit of having ridden against her, just like Olivier Peslier.”

Soumillon was aboard Shirocco when the Breeders’ Cup winner proved too strong for Ouija Board in the Coronation Cup and rode third placed Manduro in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes. He will not sit on the mare before Saturday.

Dunlop added: “Ouija Board did her final piece of work on Monday, which I was happy with, and as long as she is okay in the meantime, she will be declared to run.” Ouija Board is 7-4 second favourite behind David Junior with the sponsors Coral, who on Tuesday trimmed Aussie Rules to 8-1 (from 10).

Among the outsiders set to take their chance are Hattan and Royal Alchemist, available at 66-1 and 100-1, the former bidding to win a prize Clive Brittain captured with Pebbles in 1985.

“He’s in great form,” said Brittain. “He didn’t have arace in Milan. His saddle slipped after a furlong and he just had a canter round. We are very pleased with him and he’s a very good horse. He’ll be underrated as usual but believe me I don’t underrate him - that’s the most important thing.”

Royal Alchemist is set to take her chance after running third to Soviet Song in the Windsor Forest Stakes. “We’ve always had it in our minds that we would take our chance in this Group 1,” said trainer Mark Usher. “She’s very tough, she’s very game. There’s a chance of some rain and we would hope for some. All things being equal we’ll probably let her take her chance. She’s in good form at the moment.”

Sandown's going remains good to firm after a dry day on Tuesday, and the course will decide on Wednesday with showers forecast whether to water again on Thursday.

Clerk of the course Andrew Cooper said: "We have a forecast where we could see some showers, some potentially heavy, in the area anytime on Wednesday, but as is usual some areas will remain dry while others will be wet.

"The showers could be thunderstorms involving some quite beefy showers and we could get a couple of millimetres or we could get 50mm.

"Thereafter, it should predominantly be dry with the chance of further scattered showers on Thursday and a weak wet weather front on Friday with no great quantity of rain. Basically it will be unsettled and will get a bit cooler.

"As far as watering goes, we will decide today when we have greater confidence after weknow how much rain we've had."

Everywhere i look, Ace continues to be listed.....

Fallon on Aussie if he's allowed to ride. He looks better and better, and Notnowcato interesting (Hattan as well) ..... nice that last time out.

My question is this, Brockguy..... will Arabian Prince be used as a rabbit for Aussie?

48 hour final declarations..... nine left in the field. Ace is out. Hopefully they'll get him ready and send him over for the Arlington Million. Arabian Prince and Hurricane Cat are out as well.

An interesting aside, the David Junior connections have purchased Royal Alchemist. Hmmm.....
