Default Canterbury and Arapahoe Park

This weekend, I'm heading out to Canterbury (Sat) and Arapahoe Park (Sun). Are there any DTers out there that have any "perils of wisdom" concerning betting, the tracks, or other interesting aspects of the Minneapolis or Denver area.

I'll be at Canterbury on Saturday.
Honestly, I haven't been out there enough this year to call out any track bias, but it definitely favors speed.

Lemoncrush,

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind when I start 'capping this afternoon.

Also, keep in mind that they rarely run on good or yielding turf. It's borderline ridiculous how they baby their turf course. There's showers expected later today and tonight so be prepared for them to possibly be off the turf if the showers continue into tomorrow.

Default Canterbury Handicapping

There is a blog on the Canterbury website where there is a weekend racing recap that has comments on pace and post biases. There is also a worksheet on trainer win percentages in different months. Well worth checking out.

This is the second weekend in Denver right ? I would bet horses that have speed or horses that havent had too long in between races . Also if a horse is shipping in and has worked within the last few days before it runs and hasnt ran there once I would stay away from it , the altitude seems to hit them worse if they work them before running them if they havent had an out there. I just know this because I used to ride there and the first few weekends speed holds because the others get tired from chasing them . GOOD LUCK.

Honu,

Great insight, especially concerning the altitude and shippers. Glad to get some guidance on Arapahoe. Yes, it is the second weekend. Any sharp trainers or riders I should keep my eye on?

Trainers: Temple Rushton , Jon Arnett, Kenneth Gleason , Bill Brownlee

I think due to the Tampa scandal, I've been getting some nice prices on Derek Bell horses at Canterbury. I don't remember Bell riding this many longshots at Canterbury ever.

I'm 50/50 on going to the CBY this weekend, because I can't get a table. Eventhough there's no quest for the Triple Crown, it's still gonna be hella busy on Saturday.

Yeah, I followed Derek at Tampa up until they banned him. He has four mounts on Saturday, 2 with McLean Robertson and 2 with Bernell Rhone. All 4 look to be pretty live. I'm sure I'll be using him. Hopefully, the prices will be good.

Didn't give much thought to it being busy, despite the Belmont. Should I arrive early and where would be a good place to "set up shop"?
