Default 3 yr olds vs 4 yr olds

I was listening to a little ATRAB today... and someone called in and said they picked the 4 yr old over the 3 yr olds. I guess you can point to any race and claim you have proof. My line of thinking is.. if a horse is still racing in NW2L at 4... it isn't a good horse. Sumwon's last race had a couple 4 yr olds in there and they finished up the track.

if a 4 yr old is the 3/5 favorite against 3 yr olds
did the horse win because it is faster or older?

I understand that a 3 yr old isn't as mature as a 4 yr olds but
how many times have you seen an older horse that towers over the others, finish up the track?

The other point they were making was 4 yr olds vs 3 yr olds this time of year. Do they mean that in the fall the 3 yr olds have caught up?

Rags to Riches may be or has been faster than the boys but I think the boys have caught up. I will toss her from my trifecta.

imo you have to look at each horse's form going in to a race. i'd say the top 4 yr olds are better than the top 3 yr olds and i think the speed figs bear that out.
