Default Life Changed.... Not for the better.

Gas station 1/2 mile from home changed ownership and NO LONGER SELLS THE RACING FORM.

This was the halfway point of my twice-a-day walk with my dog where Bubba was greeted with a Milk Bone and I got my DRF. Been doing this for almost four years.

Walked in there last night. No DRF. No Milk Bone.

Ay, que vida tan cruel.

That sucks, I feel bad for Bubba it's probably something
he looked forward to doing when he got close to the gas
station, knowing he's going to get nice snack. When times
change it's usually for the worse.

Bruce,

Get a hold of DRF distribution department. Or Marc Attenberg. There is no reason the station can't get reserved copies of the Form with the delivery of their other papers. Ask the manager and tell him you'll pay a 'subscription' monthly and I'm sure they'll bring it in for you.

Daily Racing Form Customer Service Center
Our Customer Service Center operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Representatives can be reached via e-mail at cservice@drf.com or via telephone at 1-800-306-FORM (3676).

Thx, Steve. I'll try it. The new owner says he dropped it because people were "stealing" the Forms as well as the NYTimes. I asked him why he couldn't keep them behind the counter and he said he had no room because he was expanding the phone card line. Great; ten more ways to call Armenia for $.30 a minute I don't need ... certainly not at the expense of the DRF and Sunday NYT. But thanks again fir the info ... I'll check it out.

think of it as a time of opportunity. Bubba has been bored by the same old route twice a day, same sniffing patterns etc... Now you will be able to open up a whole new world for him, full of new places to explore and raise a leg. Here's to Bubba's new life of exploration !

And maybe its time for you to start downloading and printing. I have not bought a DRF in ages, it just has a serious lack of handicapping information stats that I like to use. Nowadays, I feel at a total disadvantage when I pick up a form laying around and try to handicap from it, no confidence.

Sometimes, a "freshening" will open new ways of seeing, BUT, I went through your experience many times in my DRF days, driving miles around the countryside making stops to comeup with a Form, and I remember the frustration, the phone calls to the distributor etc. It's a new day !

i know how you feel ! the distributor here changed hands last year. i've not gotten a DRF in this area since. no one here seems bothered about it, they all pass the buck, so i gave up.

stick a bone in your pocket for Bubba and give it to him when you get to that point.

I feel for you. I used to live in a "metropolitan" type city in Northern NJ, right near the GW Bridge. 5 or 6 places used to have the form. One sold out, you always had a shot at one of the others, and they were all within 2 miles of each other.

Then -- of course I move to the "suburbs". What a culture shock for someone like me, LOL. I go from the most incredible view of the NYC skyline to looking at a mountain range. Oh boy! LOL. Anyway, there is one place and one place only that carries the DRF and the place is about 6 miles or so away -- all local driving, tons of lights, etc. Usually about a 15 minute drive or so. I called DRF, several distributors, every newsstand type store, etc. Hey, I ain't complaining -- but not until I showed up for several weeks in a row would he even consider "holding" a form for me.

Call DRF as Steve said. Call a few of the distributors listed and see if they will supply it to one of their local shops near you.

Good luck!

Eric

the shell station where I used to read the form no longer carries it as well, I'll miss the days of being at home then running over to the gas station with a pen and notebook...lol

I remember the days when I would go 5 miles down the road and purchase the DRF a day in advance. Then, my life was turned upside down as well. I walked in at the same time on Friday as I had for years and she said they no longer carry advanced copies, only the same day's issue.

Now, I have to make the 15-20 minute drive to Beulah as it is the only place within a half hour of my home to get an advance copy. I am going to contact DRF and see if I can shake things up at the local scratch off parlor.

Default Newstand

A newstand is not a real newstand unless it carries the Form.

Agree with Eric. Raised also in Northern NJ and now reside in SF area. Remember as a kid my Dad taking us out West for the Family Vacation. Get to the Grand Canyon, Dad looks at it for ten minutes and says okay I've seen enough, lets move on. He truly was a city boy...
