Tom Durkin is away on vacation at this time each year. He has a home in Tuscany.

wow, the thought of two tom dorkins?

man, now i'll never get to sleep!

i'm going to have corny race call nightmares now, in stereo. i'll probably hear cause for concern in surround sound stereo followed up by him calling horses by the wrong name over and over!

I know Tom Durkin is a great racecaller. He must be, because anywhere I say otherwise, people jump all over me. I never cared for him...way too dramatic. I particularly disliked his comments about Bernardini after the Preakness. I think his negative jibe was edited out of the tape later. Barbaro broke down and we were all beside ourselves, but his dissing of Bernardini was completely unnecessary.

How did he diss Bernardini? I remember at the end of the Saratoga race it sounded like he wet his pants he was so hysterical.

I think one of the best public speeches I've witnessed was by Durkin at the Hall of Fame Induction this past summer. I'd also be willing to bet that if you compiled a list of the Top 10 Race Calls he'd have several on the list. Highly dramatic, yes, but if someone didn't enjoy "Tiznow Does it for America!" I don't know what to say.

I am one that usually enjoys him, even when he gets overly dramatic.

The Tiznow wins it for America line was great, and will always give me chills.

But I admire Tiznow even more than Durkin for that day. Still can't believe when I see that replay how he comes back to win after clearly getting passed by Sahkee. Great display of talent guts and heart.

All the races he called with Bernardini later were examples of a guy who was having a Pampers accident. They were replays of another popular A.P. Indy..my guy Mineshaft! He used to go off the radar praising him, too. At the end of the Preakness he made a negative comment about Bernie's time; I am paraphrasing now because I blocked it from my memory. He basically said the time was ordinary. Anyway, it wasn't true. His time was a very good one and so were his figures: Beyer, Ragozin, Thorograph.
