Which race, the Illinois Derby, Santa Anita Derby or Wood, has most recently seen it's winner come back to win the Ky Derby?

It's 5 weeks out from the Derby. The last two years, the consensus favorite didn't make the gate.

And horses can come from anywhere and get real good real fast. If it weren't for Rachel A, Dunkirk and Summer Bird, Mine That Bird might be a Triple Crown winner.

What about Shackelford?

I like all the preps. Line them up and let them run.

Its only 300k, so winning the race doesn't guarantee you a spot in the Derby.

It will be a bad race

I know I may be reaching here, but after one dismal prep after another, is it even remotely possible the Arkansas Derby will be the best prep?

Not that I think he has a chance (at this point), but The Factor's triple-digit Beyers are somewhat refreshing when looking through the 30 or so top contenders.

Is Astrology still in the Arkansas Derby? I didn't see his name in an article on the race, and you don't have him on the graded earnings list as going.

If he does run, at gets a Beyer of over 90, I'm pretty sure he's the Kentucky Derby winner. The middle move followed by the hang job in the Sunland Park Derby was a dead give away.

Will have to contend with R Heat Lightning, however.

I'm following Astrology closely, wish I knew if he were in the Ark. Derby, he did have a 5 furlong workout at S.A in 1:00 and 4/5th's today. If he doesn't go this Saturday in the Ark. Derby, at least this gives hope he's still on the Derby trail and will prep in a different race

As for Astrology, I see where the Bloodhorse reports they may go to The Preakness via The Jerome. However, the KY Derby has not been completely ruled out
We’ll work him at Churchill Downs on Monday before making a decision,” said co-owner George Bolton, who also is majority owner of Arkansas Derby (gr. I) favorite The Factor. “We lost a month with him because of an illness and he’s been behind all year.”

What I'm inferring here is that they'll take a wait and see approach, especially regarding The Factor's success or lack thereof in the Arkansas Derby Saturday. Seems like Astrology should not be rushed into the Derby, but a problem with The Factor or a fondness for the Churchill downs coupled with Derby Fever (also known as the Uncle Mo Syndrome) could sway the decision

It's really hard to wait and see once you think about running for a second or more, and then ultimately skipping. How often have we seen that?

Right, like Uncle Mo is the most far fetched potential Derby entrant in recent history. I'm guessing folks rate his Derby winning chances lower than Zanjero, Danthebluegrassman, and Nowhere to Hide and about 126 other Derby Entrants from the last ten years.

Is Oaklawn drawing the Arkansas Derby today (Wednesday)?

Typically, I think their Saturday entries aren't released until Thursday, but since Saturday is the biggest (and last) day of their meet, I thought they may draw a day early.
