Will this the year the Blue Grass mercifully loses its GI status?

They'll never do it...After yesterday, maybe the Florida Derby should as well.

I can't remember what turf writer suggested in a column/article last year that only dirt graded earnings should count for Derby entrance, but I'm all for it. Then again, a gang of money was plowed into Stately Victor last year, which isn't entirely a bad thing.

Seriously....? Shouldn't the Illinois Derby either lose its graded status, or be moved to Arlington during the summer or...something?

I can't believe anyone pointing to the SA Derby or AK derby didn't think twice about shipping here for this spot. Even Anthony's Cross (didn't Harty win it last year with the legendary American Lion)?

Which race, the Illinois Derby, Santa Anita Derby or Wood, has most recently seen it's winner come back to win the Ky Derby?

It's 5 weeks out from the Derby. The last two years, the consensus favorite didn't make the gate.

And horses can come from anywhere and get real good real fast. If it weren't for Rachel A, Dunkirk and Summer Bird, Mine That Bird might be a Triple Crown winner.

What about Shackelford?

I like all the preps. Line them up and let them run.

Its only 300k, so winning the race doesn't guarantee you a spot in the Derby.

It will be a bad race

I know I may be reaching here, but after one dismal prep after another, is it even remotely possible the Arkansas Derby will be the best prep?

Not that I think he has a chance (at this point), but The Factor's triple-digit Beyers are somewhat refreshing when looking through the 30 or so top contenders.

If some ailment were to sideline Uncle Mo between now and the Derby... wouldn't that make for an interesting scenario? A lot of $$$ would be on Dialed In (who would come in a fast closing 2nd or 3rd) and The Factor would have to be a super horse to contend with the pretenders that would hound him all the way on the lead. Who, then

I like Archarcharch in the Arkansas Derby. He finished well, behind The Factor and is bred to run a bit.
