I totally agree about the lesser claiming races. They are MUCH tougher than elsewhere and horses usually have to drop to win.

if, at the end of the meet, the average daily purses aren't a $1 Million, then yes it is false advertising.. won't know until then, though, will we?

By comparison, the top five racetracks, with average daily purse distribution in 2009, were:

1. Saratoga Racecourse (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), 36 days, $729,100

2. Keeneland fall meet (Lexington, Ky), 17 days, $608,730

3. Keeneland spring meet (Lexington, Ky), 15 days, $601,950

4. Belmont Park fall meet (Elmont, N.Y.), 33 days, $556,545

5. Del Mar Racecourse (Del Mar, Cal.), 37 days, $544,295

So... the $1,500 to run in these tougher claimers adds the incentive to enter? I would imagine this is why we still see over 10 entries per average on a "bad" day of races like today.

Seems to be working so far.

moron? a little emotional about a nothing issue arent you?

i read the paragraph. seems like the million dollar a day is false advertising if most of the days arent 1 million. i understand its an average. but i still wonder if they will be anywhere near that when all is said and done.

I get emotional dealing with people who are illiterate... sorry please forgive me.

The "million dollar a day" is a shortened marketing term, would you rather them say "million dollar a day average in purses due to be paid based upon handle"?

Wow, are you the person who came up with the marketing campaign or something? Why are you getting so worked up?

Wonder if the Double DQ in today's 5th will have an effect, especialy since one of the placing's number wasn't blinking?

I think they did blink both numbers. Marquez claimed foul against both Bravo and Fragoso.

A little off topic, but I went to Monmouth on Father's Day. It was a little crowded but a great atmosphere. It also had a big card, full fields and low takeout on the pick 4s and the 50-cent pick 5 (which also had a guaranteed pool). I even got to see Bravo DQ'd from first in one race (not that I got anything against Bravo, but it did keep me alive in the pick 4). I did not count the purse total. I did have a good time.

You know, come to think of it I think you are right. I watched the race and really wasn't paying attention to the inquiry. I just figured that Bravo was coming down. But I didn't think the 2 was even involved. I swear I heard that Marquez on the 1 lodged an objection against Bravo on the 4 and Fragoso on the 6. From what I remember Ortiz on the 2 was on the rail out of harms way. I have to go home and watch the race again, but I think you are correct Alan.
Or maybe I just heard everything wrong, which is very possible as well.

Don't feel bad, I had him when he was taken down a couple of Saturday's ago as well. It was Steven Foster Day. But that's 3 dq's already (that I could think of), pretty amazing. Since they only race 3 days a week, does the schedule/penalty for doing days change?
