When does the $1,000,000 a day start at MTH?

Just noticed that there's maybe $450,000 or so in purses at Monmouth today. $850,000 Saturday. $764,000 Sunday.

Have they had a day with a $1,000,000 in purses yet?

Cannon Shell 06-25-2010 12:37 PM

Sat they will be far in excess of 1 million since the 2 stakes are worth 1 million alone.

Cannon Shell 06-25-2010 12:39 PM

Ok.. That's nice. What's that have to do with my question? I capped MTH today and noticed that the purses were $400k+ which made me look at Sat/Sun.

Where's the $1,000,000 a day?

pba1817 06-25-2010 01:02 PM

As a bettor, I don't care... I want large fields and Monmouth is providing that to me. Belmont offers very shorts fields.

You seem to be the only one complaining about it...

Did I miss a post somewhere? Where was the complaint?

For what it's worth, I like fields in the mid-range . 7 or 8 .

Who the phuck is complaining? I'm asking about the purses because thouigh you may not know it, the winner's share has been greatly decreased from the usual 60% under the system that rewards participation and pays $1,500 to all runners. And if they in fact are going to load up purses for Haskell Week only, then the $1,000,000/day portion of the equation is something of a come on that is short-arming owners that win.

I"ll venture to guess that the 1MM per day is over the 50 day meet. 50MM over 50 days is the way it was marketed, not 1MM per day. I could be wrong.

Are these owners complaining?

As far as the part about watering down the winner's share, I am pretty sure the reason for the $1500 to all runners is a way of rewarding the local owners/trainers who are "out-stocked" by the super trainers shipping in. All things considered, I think it's a great idea.

Short-arming owners that win??? you are kidding, right? $70-$80k for maidens, NW1X, and NW2X isn't short arming anyone even if $9000 comes off the top to the also-rans

I don't know. They may not complain until they get their statements because they may not realize that the winner's share is lower. It doesn't really matter with the inflated ALW's and MSW's because the increased purse should offset the lower percentage for the winner. But the mid-lower range purses aren't that inflated, and frankly, running versus 10-11 for 50% of $25k isn't that attractive versus running for 60% of say $18k versus 6-7.

My question had nothing to do with the handle portion of the MTH meet. The glaringingly small total purse forthe day caught my attention. I had thought they were giving away a minimum of $700k-$800k daily.

Addressed that above. It's not about the ALW/MSW races. It's the cheap races that are running today (only 2 ALW's) that caught my attention..

not a very convincing arguement you have presented. the topic has nothing to do with belmont.

Wow....

I asked a question that was well worth asking. There isn't a 'complaint' wrapped in Post 1 or 12 or anywhere else.
