I used to drive my trainer crazy trying to get her to go to other racetracks to claim something. We'd always end up claiming at home, and somehow made it work..... ![]() |

not to mention that there is plenty of fake dirt around here too (with TP, KEE ARL and PID) and probably more on the way.....

All angles are tough to make work and, certainly, having a bankroll makes it easier to eat the ones that don't work. A bankroll is always a good thing. Walking a tightrope with a little money is a real pressure cooker and it tends to make you look for the "now" horse that you can run back and get a couple checks with - the old no-brainer. But it sure is fun when you have some money behind you, to be able to look at the not-so-obvious horse that's with a low % trainer, who is riding low % jocks, the keeps getting troubled trips, and has some conditions to work with to get you out. Claiming is a lot or work and a lot of fun and I admire those that can do it successfully. |

![]() bloodlines help but what kinda of action does it take to run on fake dirt
and what kinda feet do you want? I don't have a clue but I would think the paddle hoof would help keep a horse on top of that stuff personally I love turf racing. Seems like turf horses have longer careers maybe not So... any high action paddle hooved girls with a big butt we can afford

![]() If I had to guess...the ones he's looking at in the 5th are - Chippewa Court & Classic Emily
and in the 9th - Mithaal & Liquoreux. Cocesse Chief also looks interesting. Apt to Be is a "hard hitter" but 10 is too old!

Quick question... Is claiming off Mcl win, returning for reduced tag something to generally avoid, or purely depends on situation? |

I guess it depends on the trainer. Most maiden claiming horses are not worth the tag put on them and realistically need to "drop" in price because the competition at the same price in open claimers i s much tougher. Conditional claimers are a different story all together. I assume you are referring to the 11 horse in todays 5th? (she is scratched) Trainers that have a lot of horses and owners that will let them do it will drop a horse off a maiden claiming win in order to try to win another race with a weak horse. It may not be a sign of impending physical doom but an attempt to get as much as you can while the horse is in good form. |

![]() Thanks. Thinking about it from claiming standpoint, not necessarily betting. That #11 was the one that caught my eye as interesting.
